Lots of people make their own envelope boxes these days to match their wedding colours/theme.  You can use coloured boxes or photo boxes or cover some boxes with paper to match, and decorate with ribbons/flowers/whatever you like.  I've also seen little trunks used.

Are you having a winter or Christmasy theme for your December wedding?  If so you could decorate the box with snowflakes or red/gold decor.
  • Ditto pp.  OP, if you don't like this idea either, you can always carry an envelope pouch.

  • At my cousins wedding they had a mailbox as their cardbox. I thought it was a really cute idea. They were moving into their new house the week after so they could then set it up when they moved in. It was something that was actually useful after the wedding.
  • We did one of those frame/picture card boxes :) It was fun to make it!

  • Whatever you do, make sure it's prominent and make sure it closes.

I had a card box but some of my guests didn't notice it and put their cards on the table.  We had envelopes get stolen :(

  • We bought a hat box from Michaels. (They had other sorts of cardboard boxes too!) We're going to cut a slot into the top of it, and cover it in fabric with a snowflake pattern (December wedding). I think total investment was maybe $10-15.

  • I found a plain, white, collapsable box for cards at my local party store.  We wrapped it with wedding-themed wrapping paper.
  • You can also get them on etsy, that is where I got mine...

  • I'm planning to make a photo/frame box following these instructions - http://roadtotheaisle.blogspot.com/2007/09/diy-photo-frame-cardbox.html.

I plan to get nice frames and hopefully not damage them in the process because I will use two of them to give my mom and the MOG a nice wedding portrait of me and FI after we get our professional wedding pictures back. The other two frames I will keep and display in our home with our favorite pictures. I think it looks nice and will be worth it since I can reuse the frames and the other materials to make the box are inexpensive. I'll put three of our engagement pictures in the frames and one frame will have a card that says "Cards".
