When to send a Thank You?

My wedding is in May.  I recieved my first gift in the mail yesterday = ) It was something off my registry.  The person who sent it to me IS coming to the wedding so I'm thinking maybe she can't come to the shower and sent me a gift?  I don't know anything about when the shower is, all I know is something is planned.

So do I send her a thank you card now, or do I wait until after the shower when I will be sending out all the thank you's?

I would send her a thank you now so you can keep up with your thank you notes as you receive your gifts. HTH!

Send a thank you note right away, open the gift and make sure it isn't broken, and put it away until the wedding.

Correct etiquette is to send gifts to the home even if you are coming to the wedding, so you'll start to get some in the mail soon.

I would send her a thank you now, so she'll know that you received it.  But as PP suggested you shouldn't use it until after the wedding.

send it now. if you know when your shower is and it's coming up, you might want to fudge it and not say shower gift or wedding gift. you can usually tell from the type of gift though--more expensive gifts are more likely for your wedding.

I don't think you need to specify which event the gift was for in the thank you note.  I think thank you notes are suposed to be sent within a couple weeks of receiving a gift, so the same would go for early wedding presents as well.
