Weird cake flavor?

So from my other posts, you may notice my FI is weird. Haha! I love him, but the ideas he comes up with are just short of crazy. I convinced him to add an accent of purple for our black and white wedding, however, he has now gotten it into his mind that he wants a - wait for it -  GRAPE flavored cake. yeah.

First off, does that even exist?

We've had trouble with deciding exactly what we will do for a cake, since he doesn't like icing of any kind. I guess that means no cakes or no cupcakes?

Does anyone have a good alternative?

Personally that doesn't sound appetizing at all. Maybe you can have the cake you would like and since he doesn't enjoy cake his geoom's cake can be something else (like if he likes ice cream or brownies).

I would say possibly a grape filling but not the whole cake flavor, you may have a hard time finding a bakery that has that flavor.  Also, you have to think about what your guests would want to eat.  Maybe do the grooms cake as pp suggested or a small cake that is grape just for the you two.

My FI wanted poundcake, since that' his favorite kind of dessert. We had a little difficulty finding a cake baker willing/able to do that in a groom's cake ... most places we talked to encouraged the traditional chocolate groom's cake route, since they said that's what most guests would want to eat. In the end, I think we did half poundcake, half chocolate cake.

My suggestion is to go to a bakery and actually taste cakes ... you might fall in love with a design or a flavor that isn't what you originally thought. That's what we did ... we had pastel colors for our wedding party, but our cakes were black and white designs.

You have an extremely weird FI :P  First the reverse black/white wedding and now this?

Going with PP, Grape does not sound very appetizing to me, but if you must, do a filling :(

I would skip the grape flavor. Just because your accent color is purple, does not mean that it has to be in everything, I'm assuming the inspiration for this was the fact that most things that are grape are also purple?

Grape filling wouldn't even be purple... it would be red.  Or greenish white.

Blackberries would probably give you a color similar to the one you'd get from red grapes, and it might be easier to get a blackberry filling.

I was thinking this also, so..the guests may not "get" it...maybe just have white cake and have the baker dye it purple?

The baker can dye the cake to by that color I'll bet.  You could also ask them to make some cupcakes without icing and have the cake be with icing.  Several girls have had FI's that didn't like cake either and they did gelato bars and other different things.

Okay, I'm up for weird any ol' time. Might I suggest grape frosing on a peanut butter cake? Like I said, I'm pretty weird.
Why does time speed up the closer I get to the wedding?

Honestly--the whole thing sounds made up.  But on the off chance that you are for real, my advice is to try and find a baker that will do it, then take your FI to a tasting so he can see how bad it will taste.

A better alternative would be to find something he does like (cheesecake, ice cream, etc.) and have that in lieu of a groom's cake.  It would be nice to still provide traditional cake for your guests.

I hate to say this but I'm seriously gagging thinking about a grape-flavored anything. Maybe it's all that Dimatapp I had to take as a kid

Next, we'll find that someone has an aversion to real flowers and wants them to all be made of grapevines.
Is your theme Alice in Wonderland? Or, since he is the one making the odd requests, is it Alex in Wonderland? Mad Hatter Wedding? Put down the sharpies. It's so 2010 to make cake decisions 3 years in advance.
    BUUUTTTT, happy planning to you!

Ok that totally made me laugh and yes grape flavored cake is stupid.  Black and white with purple accents are our colors as well.

Do  a dessert bar with a variety of desserts

Can I be quite honest?  If you are for real, are you sure he is ready to get married?  He is putting up a lot of roadblocks for you to overcome... Just seems like he is looking  to make it more difficult.

That being said, I still don't think you are real.

I agree with Stephie... I have a hard time believing this is real.  With that said, grape cake sounds a little unappetizing to me.  I would vote no and ask a professional to give you better ideas if your heart is set on purple cake.

We should have a G2G with cupcake bakeoffs, featuring some weird flavors. Grossest cupcake wins.
