I love being "old school".... FUNNY!

OMG!! I just saw a thread on my wedding month board about a poem for Tears of Joy packets (tissues ... small packets of tissues). I keep thinking to myself ... the weepers among my friends and family will certainly bring their own tissues ...

What will the wedding industrial complex come up with next to separate brides from their money? Sheesh! No wonder the average cost of an American wedding is $22K to $29K.

I love being old school ...

I've seen these as well, but mostly as a DIY project. I don't think the wedding industry is making too much money from "tears of joy", but this isn't what struck me... what strikes me, is the assumption that people will cry at these weddings. And that they will cry in significant numbers to warrant an entire basket of tissues. It seems a bit over the top egocentric to me....

I know ... it's just absolutely hysterical. If I mention buying tissue packets and peronalizing them with a poem ... just shoot me.

Yeah, it's one of the reasons I'm wary when brides say they will save a whole lot of money on their weddings by doing lots of DIY. I have nothing against DIY; I did lots of it for my own wedding. However, in my mind, before deciding to DIY something, you need to think whether you actually need that thing at all. In the case of tears of joy, the answer is no.

This is too funny! I was at a wedding several years ago where the staff at the venue passed a box of tissues down the front row where family was sitting. We each took a couple to get through the ceremony.

Well, I think you all will find this hysterical,
     but,
I had never even heard of it,
and I actually think its a great idea....

I am one of those people who can watch a wedding and not know a single participant and be totally crying!

I am over the top sentimental, and I would actually welcome the idea of a tissue at the wedding ceremony......

I may be alone on this one, but thats ok...least you all got an added chuckle out of it.....

It's not the crying guests that makes this funny to me (I am one of those guests that cry) ... it's the energy some of these brides are expending, whipping themselves into a frenzy of calling tissues "Tears of Joy" packets and researching poems for the packets or baskets, or whatever. Where does that come from?

I cry at weddings. I bring my own tissues.

It comes from Martha Stewart Weddings... The crafty bride can fashion her own moss covered ring bearer pillow, or oragami escort cards.....

It's interesting to me how the "wedding industry" has come up with so many ways to separate brides from their money and that many buy into it.

What's necessary and what's hype? We know the answer to that but the younger brides don't and with all the shows, bridal magazines and other information out there it's easy to get confused about what your guests expect and what is just fluff.

    And yes it's hilarious!

those tissue packets are so adorable though... wouldn't people think to bring their own tissues if they are criers. i know my mom never leaves home without one of those travel sized packets - and i always "borrow" some from her

Thanks for the belly laughs ladies, yes the wedding industry is a racket.

All throughout the planning process, I asked myself this question: "and what will you do with this item after the wedding???" Will you use it again?, will you pitch it out?

I was mad at myself because someone told me to only make one program for each couple. I didn't take that advice, because I thought everyone would want a program. Man was I WRONG. I had 50 left over. Exactly half of the invited guests.

I loved the thought of the toilet tablets???? OMGoodness, that is halarious.

I also love being "old school." I think if I were going to conduct "bride boot camp," I would like to tell the younger brides, "Stop trying to be so creative. It's a wedding. Have good food, good music and your guests will be happy and you will be just as married, less frazzled and have a few dollars left in the bank" Reading some of the other boards I am hearing things I have never heard of before and fortunately never seen: foot washings, ring warmings, themes of all sorts. I feel totally left behind (actually in a good way). I don't even have "colors." I deliberately picked December because the bed and breakfast where we're hold the wedding will be decorated for the holidays. Voila, decorations and colors taken care of by someone else. It's also impossible to explain to some of the younger brides that when you start trying to be creative way beyond your skill level, you are leaving yourself wide open to harsh critiques (yes, we all critique weddings) from your guests. If you do a Robin Hood/Maid Marian theme, you better do it exceedingly well or your guests will mostly be laughing at your silly pretentious wedding.

ROTF LMAO!!! OMG ... I cannot stop laughing at this. I recall seeing pictures of a wedding that had some sort of castle/prince/princess theme. The dress was looked like something out of a Shakespearean drama. The horsedrawn carriage looked like something out of Cinderella ...

    Lord, help us!

I'm getting married outdoors, in the wine country, during the height of hay fever season.

Maybe tissues as favors aren't a bad idea.

I could also have our flower girl dispense claratin in her basket instead of poseies...

    hahahaha
