Long Distance Matron of Honor

My best friend is getting married to my brother and has asked me to be her Matron of Honor which I couldn't be happier about however I need some ideas.  My husband is in the Army and we are stationed in Alaska so there is no way that we can afford for me to go home for her shower, bachelorette party, and wedding so I am wanting to do something special for her and am in need of ideas.  I just want to do something so she knows I am happy for them (which I am very) and sorry I couldn't be there.  Thank you!

Re: Long Distance Matron of Honor

  • Do you want to do it AT these events??

If so, for the shower since it's a little more formal, you could do a video message and have someone play it and have someone hand her a gift from you while she watches your message.

For the bachelorette party, you could find out where they are going and treat them to a round of drinks with the bartending reading a toast from you.

Just a quick thought on those, I'm sure someone else could advance on them from there.

  • It's not required for you to attend every single pre-wedding party.  I'm sure the bride will understand that you cannot attend every single event.  She is probably excited that you will just be able to stand up for her and not expect much else (and if she does, send her our way - we will straighten her out!).  Her other, local BM can plan these parties, if they wish to give her one.

If you want to do something nice for her.  If you plan on being in town for the wedding a few days before, why not schedule a mani/pedi session with the bride.  I'm sure she will appreciate the few hours of relaxation before the wedding day.
  • She doesn't mind me not being there for them as long as I am at the wedding which I will be.  I just wanted to do something special for her since I can't be there.
  • I couldn't attend my sister-in-law's baby shower (it was out of state), so I contacted the person who was hosting and offered to send an "Edible Arrangement".  It was kinda pricey, but I wanted to contribute in some way.  Maybe you could do something like that?
