Mother of the Bride dress question

my stepdaughter is getting married in August, and I am having a hard time finding a dress for the wedding. To further add to the problem I am a size 18, so not everything will look good on me.
I am wondering if it's OK to wear a strapless dress, is that appropriate as Mother of the Bride(I am the stepMom)

    You should base your dress on the style and formality of the wedding. Is it a formal wedding or a more laid back wedding? What time of year will it be? I wouldn't get too caught up in colors because the MOB and MOG usually pay more attention to that. Unless there is no biological MOB and you pretty much raised her. Then you might want to include color in your decision.

    I would need more information to really help you out.

    Agree with PP.  Pick your dress based on the formality of the wedding and the formality of the brides dress.  You don't want to wear and elegant evening gown if the bride is wearing a beachy, sheath dress.  I really wouldn't worry about color that much...the parents do not need to match or coordinate with the colors of the wedding.  Just try not to pick an ivory or white dress.  It is amazing how many MOBs, MOGs, Step MOBs, Step MOGs, decide to wear ivory or white.  I know that they are adults and can wear what they want but I still think it is a horrible idea.

    Try not to overthink what you are wearing too much.  Pick something that flatters your figure and that you are comfortable in.  And if you are still worried you can always ask the bride to go shopping with you so she can give suggestions and opinions.

    Strapless is perfectly fine!  My mother is wearing a strapless dress and I love it cause she'll be comfortable and gorgeous!
