Moms and Maids

MOB And MOG wearing black?

Traditionally I have read that the mothers should not wear black.... it is a sign of mourning the wedding.  My colors are black and red.  I am getting married new years eve.   The bridesmaids are wearing simple long black dresses.   DO you think it would be ok for the mothers to wear black also?  Black just looks so nice on everyone.

Besides what PP mentioned, black is in.
It's not longer considered the "color of mourning". Now, this doesn't mean wear WHITE to a funeral, but black is such a sleek, chic, and slimming color that it has become increasingly popular in the wedding party and guest style. Let them wear black. They are grown women and can dress themselves :P

Oh I just realized you said that your BMs are wearing black, then ABSOLUTELY the moms can wear black without a second thought. It's one of your wedding colors!

Traditionally, the bms would not have worn black, either. The moms will be fine in black, if that's what they want to wear.

[QUOTE]The moms wear whatever they want to, unless they're in the wedding party. The bride should not attempt to dictate their attire.

I wore black to 2 of my 3 married DD's weddings.  I was as far from "in mourning" as you can get.  It is absolutely fine for them to wear black if they choose to.

If they want to wear black then by all means let them.  But you can not tell them to wear black...it is their choice as to what color and style dress they will wear.

My now MIL wore black to our wedding. When I first heard that she was planning on doing this I was less than thrilled. Black and the tendancy she has to wear age inappropriate clothes. As it turns out, I had other things on my mind that day...like actually marrying my wonderful husband!

Whatever they are comfortable in...they do not have to match your color scheme.  My daughter had moss green bridesmaid dresses, I wore chocolate brown and his mom wore champagne.  It was fine.  I would not have worn black, because the superstitions are just too deep for me  Undecided  but I have no problem with other folks doing it.
My baby girl is a married woman...and now my baby girl HAS a baby girl. Time unfolds in such an amazing way. I've been blessed!

My mom and FMIL are wearing black also.  My mom originally had a lot of people telling her that she shouldn't do that but as long as they're not wearing black simply because they don't agree with the wedding then they're fine!  My colors are black, red and white, so black dresses works! And, my mom found a GORGEOUS black sparkly dress. :-)
