What hair products?

I am not a goo user, I stick with shampoo and only condition if my hair feels like it needs it.  I plan on having DIY hollywood glam curls.  I have no idea what to use for holding a curl all day.  I would prefer products that can be purchased at grocery or drugstore and don't smell like an elderly woman.  Thanks

I recently discovered Pursebuzz.com, and the girl that created the website has a lot of great tutorials posted on Youtube with tips for products to use to achieve a great curl.  Most of the items she recommends are cheap.  One I remember her mentioning is Perfect Curls gel from Ulta.
