I think I hate concealer, am I crazy?

Hi ladies, I hope you have some words of wisdom for me. I had a somewhat disappointing makeup trial, one of the problems being that the concealer that was applied around my eyes made all the little wrinkles look very obvious and made my skin sag so much that it gave me bags under my eyes. I normally don't mind the skin under and around my eyes. It might not be the exact same tone as the rest of my face, but I don't think it's terribly dark or noticeably wrinkly. Could it be that my skin just hates concealer and none will ever work? Or was the concealer just too heavy for me? Is it such a bad thing to go without concealer? Will I look like some sort of a zombie in my wedding pictures if I don't apply it? I just feel like I look so much more natural and youthful without the concealer. I appreciate any advice you ladies can offer.

  • what PP said. different formulas of concealer work with different skin types--mine works with potted creamy formulas best. but honestly, if you look better without the concealer, then don't use it. some people don't need it and why wear makeup that you don't need?

  • I do not like concealer. I don't even really like makeup and very rarely wear it (which is why I am getting a pro on wedding day as firstly I do not want to go buy some more makeup just for wedding day, and second I trust an expert better than myself at putting it on!). I feel a lot better without it (cleaner, fresher, younger and unmasked), I have pretty fair but healthy skin, and FI likes it that way too.So, I guess all that to say is if it does not look right to you, it just does not. If you don't normally wear it, don't wear it now. I definitely do NOT want to look like someone else on my wedding day, so intend to go with a VERY light, subtle look entirely. If you think the concealer just has you looking a bit odd...don't wear it.
  • I don't know if you've already signed and are stuck with using this person, but I got my makeup airbrushed for my wedding day and it doesn't even feel like you have anything on your face. It was the second time I'd had airbrush makeup done and I was so happy with how it turned out. It is so light and looks so smooth and flawless. Not sure if that's an option for you but just wanted to recommend. It was also affordable, in my opinion.
  • Thanks everyone. It was a pro applying my make up and I didn't sign anything so I will not be using her on my wedding day. I usually just wear a light layer of foundation where I need it to even out my skin, but I don't wear concealer. I didn't pay attention to what kind of concealer the makeup artist put on me, I think she dipped a brush into it, though. I'm going to just DIY my makeup now because I've never had a positive experience with someone else doing it. It always seems to come out sloppier and less symmetrical than if I do it myself. I just have a nagging feeling that I'm gonna end up looking bad in pictures or won't look as pulled together as I think if I don't hire a pro, but maybe that's just wedding industry induced paranoia.
  • The last time I had my makeup professional done, my concealer looked much the same way in person- totally accentuated wrinkles that you can barely see without it.  I'm going to DIY my makeup on the big day, so I'm going to work on finding some products that will go on lightly and not look so bad.

  • IG - you should have your makeup artist try YSL - Touche Eclat.  It reflects light from under your eyes rather than try to "conceal" something.  I love it.  I don't have dark circles but I do like to have my under eye a bit brighter.  Also make sure your artist just applies the product on the inner corners of your eyes - there is no need to put the product near crows feet (which everyone has)Sephora is selling tiny samples of this product if you want to try it out.  It comes in 3 colors, most people can use color #2.
