[QUOTE]why would natural nails ever look tacky?

That's what I was thinking! I think natural nails are a GREAT idea! Unfortunately, my nails don't grow long enough to have them look nice for my wedding, so I will have fake nails. I don't love them, but they look better than my natural nails do. I say go for it, and if you're brave enough, go for your wedding color! I'm doing fuchsia nails, but nothing tooooo tacky.

• Sounds absolutely beautiful! I'm so gung-ho DIY, I'd do my own nails too. I'm not as lucky to have beautiful, long OR strong nails (opposite!!!). A few years ago I went to a wedding in the mountains outside Palo Alto; super low key. I have a terrible time keeping nail polish on my nails (too weak) and I had been working with my hands for the past 2 months straight (metal shop!!!) so I needed a fix for my nails for the wedding; I grabbed some glue-on French manicure style nails (short & square) made by Kiss (Comfort Fit?) from WalMart and put them on after the flight, the night before the wedding. I buffed the new nails near my cuticles to make them look more natural (and it barely took any work) and then finished them with a light clear coat. They looked.... professional! And when I saw a group pic of us at the wedding months later, I couldn't believe that such a small action had such a huge impact on the overall look. I was so impressed with it that I did it again for the next wedding... and nobody knew they were glue on.

Of course with long strong nails you don't need a glue on!! But I say scrub em and keep em moisturtized (avoid having my ragged cuticles), use a white pencil under the free edge, and a light clearcoat.... beautifully natual, minimal time. :D

I hope my long-winded story was helpful.
Best wishes!!
• Fake nails are tacky! They're so outdated. First of all, you do NOT have to take your bridesmaids to get their nails done. Second of all, a basic manicure is about $30. If you only get a polish change it's usually around $10-15. Or buy a bottle from the store they're only $5 or so. I'd say just paint your own nails, or have a friend do it. You will most likely have pictures taken of your hands & many people will ask to see your ring. You don't want to skimp on something and regret it later. Good luck!

• Natural is never tacky. As long as they aren't gnarly and dirty, you should be fine. If it bothers you, see how much the salon would cost to have your nails buffed.

Here is a little thought. Would you rather have even, beautiful nails or the acrylic talons with the mile-long french tip?
• I think acrylic/gel nails can look nice and "not" tacky!. I have a horrible nail-biting habit and even when I can manage to grow my own nails, they are thin and break easily. I keep mine super short with a french manicure. They are very popular where I live, as long as they are kept short and classy. I don't like the talon look either.

• French manicures are soooo 1997
• i do not think natural nails are tacky at all! If anything...I think fake acrylic nails are! I realy think the hotel spa night is a cute idea and you get to spend some quality time with the girls! I love the idea!
• It's not tacky just a choice of what you want to do. I have to ask why you think you have to pay for all of the bridesmaids to get their nails done? When you ask someone to be a bridesmaid they know about buying their dress and shoes, getting their hair done, nails done, possibly makeup and all on their own dime. It's not your obligation to pay for them- especially since you probably told them all about cutting the cost of the wedding along the way. You gift them at the wedding something as a thank you and later when they are married you can go through all of that yourself if they choose you too and you accept. So, if you want to pay to just get a french manicure for yourself go ahead.
• Ok so now that we have all established that fake nails are tacky and I have them...lol!!! I do want to remove them for all the reasons stated above...here is my issue...damage from fake nail annnnd my nails grow up at the tips..just slightly. Anyone have any good tips???/
• I hate fake nails, but the french manicure on natural nails looks really nice (I've done it for prom and plan on it again for our wedding). The idea of you and all your girls doing each other's nails sounds really cute (and cost effective). Good luck!

[QUOTE]I think it would be a really cute idea to do eachother's nails while you're all getting ready together. Natural nails are not tacky at all. A cute and inexpensive idea would be to get a little mini manicure set for each of your bridesmaids so you all have matching nails and they also get a little gift. E.L.F. has great little sets for $2 to $5 each. Much cheaper than paying to everyone a mani/pedi and they actually have something that lasts longer than a mani/pedi. http://www.eyeslipsface.com//nails/sets

I like the idea of giving the girls the manicure sets... thanks for the idea!
