Tatoo wedding bands

I've seen more and more people lately that don't have actual wedding bands, but rather a tatoo of a wedding band on their ring finger. What's your opinion of this?

Re: Tatoo wedding bands

  • I personally don't like the idea. Maybe I'm just old school about placing the rings on eachother fingers at the ceremony. With the divorce rate so high, its the same as tatooing a boyfriend/girlfriends name on your body to me. You can't get rid of it if you ever need to.
  • I don't like this idea at all for the reasons in the pp.
  • Well, the poll is clever. You don't have to worry about losing it or loosing it...

  • it's NMS, but I do know that my FI won't be able to wear his ring all the time because of the metal (he's a mechanical engineer working with battery circuits, etc and wears grounding material to not get electrocuted). He isnt interested in the tatoo thing, but he said a few of his coworkers have gotten it done because they cant wear their ring at work.

I don't like them. I like sparkly things and tats do not sparkle. Also, because the only people I know who got ring tats hired a very lousy artist to do them ... and theirs look awful.

  • I've actually been toying with the idea. My fiance and I have both love tattooes and have a couple. We have one tattoo artist we go to and refuse to go anywhere else, but we are a little worried about how other people will take it. We don't want to offend anyone, but after all it's our opinions that really matter. I work at a convenience store so I continously knock my pretty ring on the counter or cash register and because of that I can't wear it at work. I suppose for now it's up in the air for us.

[QUOTE]I think it's a great idea! I couldn't do it myself because I couldn't handle the pain of getting a tattoo, but for someone who's up for it, why not? I like the idea much more than I like people who type on message boards in garish colors and don't use spell check.

Wow. You know, Aerin only said something because if you did this on another board that had regs on it like E or SB, they'd just completely rip you a new one for it and wanted to prevent that from happening to you in the future. Considering how well you handled her civilly telling you, I really can't imagine you're going to take it much better when some of those other girls jump on you. Have fun, but I really don't see you lasting much longer with this attitude or choice of font.

  • If finding out that someone doesn't like your choice of font and colors makes you want to kill yourself, you need to step away from the internet ASAP.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • I think its a great idea for someone whose work would prevent them from being able to wear a ring. And just because divorce rates are high doesn't mean it shouldn't be done. I think if getting a tatoo is a bad idea because of divorce rates spending so much $$ on anything else wedding related is just as bad of an idea.

Anyways if it suits your personality/lifestyle I don't see any reason to judge another person's personal decision.

I know you didn't mean for this to be so funny, but the way it's spelled, it rhymes with "nasty" so in a way, this is a poetic post!

  • Actually, I did find Aerin's and Maria's posts quite rude. She was asking for advice. If you didn't like how she said it or how she spelled it, then you could've kept quiet about that. Not everyone is a perfect speller and some people enjoy individuality (such as using different colors or fonts while posting).

Yes, she responded badly. But there was no reason for the comment in the first place.

I can't truly speak for Stage, but I've posted with her enough to hazard a guess that she wasn't calling the OP strictly based on her choice of font, but the fact that the OP received a tiny bit of critisism and immediately told the person that did said critizing that "it's people like you that make others want to kill themselves". Most mature adults realize how offensive and innapropriate of an arguement that is. I know that's where I based my guess of her age on.

I agree, most people my age think that suicide is something to joke about, along with a lot of other serious matters in life. I also think that the post about the OP's age had a lot to do with her second post were she went a little crazy... But, as someone who has lost a close friends due to suicide and even as one who considered it many years ago, suicide isn't something to joke about. Ever.

  • I like the idea and it's something that I have thought about with FI. My fingers are apparently sensitive to different metals (my e-ring recently broke my finger out, so I'm going without a ring until it heals) and I'll never have to worry about it. We are thinking about maybe having something written in elven for the tat rings. But we're both nerds and like tats.

tattoos on your hands/fingers don't last very long. They smear easily too.

  • I have a cousin who has a tattoo on the inside of her index finger that says "Shhh!!!" Yes, she was drunk. She's 18 and is still currently amused by it. It's less than a year old, was done by a friend and she hasn't taken care of it, so it's fading. With proper care, a ring tattoo would last longer.
  • i personally find ring tattoos to be a pretty redneck kind of thing to do, but probably because i've only seen rednecks have them. and like most people said, some are done by bad artists which make them look even worse. i'm not saying there's no such thing as a classy ring tattoo, i just haven't personally seen one. it does however make sense for people who work with their hands a lot, i just think the design would have to be nice and the work done impeccably.
