Scottish & Italian Wedding Traditions

My FH is planning to wear a kilt for our upcoming wedding (and attempt to convince his groomsmen to do so also).  He really wants to incorporate the traditions of his heritage into the wedding, but the problem is that I really don't know much about Scottish weddings.

I do know that I do not care for bagpipes, and would prefer not to wear the fly plaid myself, so what else could we do that's Scottish without being too 'theme wedding'?

For my side of the family, I'd also like to add a small touch or two of Italian tradition.  The only feasible one I can readily think of is the candied nuts favor.  The problem is that I am very allergic to nuts, enough so that have 100 people eating nuts all around me could be a health risk.  Any ideas on other nice traditions or how we can blend the two?
