Unity Candle Help??

I already read the recent post of someone else needing advice, but it didn't quite cover my questions.

~If neither mother is in the picture, do our fathers light it? Or, if we have someone else close (like a stepmother or a close family friend who acted like a second mother) light them?

~If no for those ideas, what should we do???

Either way would be fine.

The two side candles can just be lit before the ceremony, or you and FI could light your own separately and then join them.

Some people like a parent or someone else to do it to show the joining of two families. Since you have a non-traditional family situation, it might be best to avoid the awkwardness entirely.

The unity candle is not a requirement, of course.
