It's WP Tuesday!

Re: It's WP Tuesday!

  • I will be so mad if she's not eliminated in the first round.  I hate those people so much.  They claim they "have" to do these things to support their kids.  Well lots of families have 5+ children (including two of my aunts/uncles) and don't go all nutso on the world.  Even the Duggars waited until they had 17 to sell out (and I can't say I blame them with that many).

They weird me out.  I don't think they're awful or anything, though.  It does bother me that it seems like the older kids raise the younger ones because there are just SO many of them.
  • Brooke, I can't stand either of  them as well.  I call BS that you need to exploit yourself and your family to make a living.

DH's family is large.  One aunt has 12 kids and other has 9.  The children are spread apart in age but none of them are pimping their kids out either.  I don't understand the logic.

You don't "have" to do this unless you want to - pure and simple.
  • And I think the Duggars are weird...but a bit more "normal".

I don't understand putting yourself on TV.

What other option do you have though when you have 19 kids?  I have 17 cousins and I thought that was a lot of people. (EDIT: That was in response to gotta's question about the older kids raising the younger ones.)

The oldest boy and his wife do creep me out.  All that hand-sex going on when they were engaged but couldn't even kiss yet or be alone in the same room.  It was like pornographic hand-holding.

I see them as pretty grounded despite the fact that they've come into some money and are now doing some promotions (I see them wearing a lot of AE clothing).  But I could be naive.

  • I cannot stand the Duggars.  I think the kids are sort of brainwashed to their way of life.  I guess you could say that about anyone, but you know.  I'm just not a fan.

But then Kate is so much worse.  I wouldn't mind tossing her off my balcony.  (I live on the 19th floor).

[QUOTE] Both Evan Lysacek and Kate Gosselin will be on DWTS.  Do I watch for Evan or boycott because of Kate?

Watch for Evan. I love figure skating. I was a figure skater for 13 years. I love it! I think the figure skater will hurt the dance moves some.  I so opposite though. I liked the Gosselins(minus the husband) but The Duggars freak me out!

  • Suz, I have been obsessed with figure skating since the 1992 Olympics.  I wish I could have done figure skating but it was a bit out of my family's price range (and we also moved a lot).  So jealous you go to do it!

Myname, I totally get the whole brainwashing thing.  These kids totally "toe the company line" when it comes to values--it's like they're obsessed with their virginity (or purity as they call it).  I remember they went to the creationist museum and all 17 kids (at the time) recited individually how evolution doesn't make sense "if you really think about it" but none could elaborate when asked.  I think all kids are "brainwashed" by parents to a certain degree; my grandpa used to joke that he thought Roosevelt's first name was "That Son of a Bitch" until he was 16.  But the Duggars are a bit extreme.

  • Exactly!

Teaching kids crap like that just sets them up to be jokes and outsiders for the rest of their lives.  Yeah, you can teach Christianity and even Evolution, but I think a parent has a responsibility to at least expose their kid to the real world.  And teaching them to parrot BS that they don't even understand is brainwashing.  I can't think of any other word for it.
  • I'm the product of years of Catholic school.  First day of freshman year, Sister Lany asked us "Who believes in dinosaurs?"  Everyone raised their hands.  She said, "Good.  That means you believe in evolution, which you should, because it's true.  Genesis is a way of explaining that complex idea to people who were only a couple of steps out of the cave.  The Bible is a collection of teachings about the world, not its literal history.  Glad we got that out of the way."  It drives me crazy though that people confuse fundamentalists with Catholics and assume that because I went to Catholic school I must not believe in evolution.

  • I'm also a product of catholic school!

I also grew up in Kentucky, where the creationism museum is.  My DH is dying to go up there and stand around out front and mess with people.  Because he thinks logic works on the stupid and brainwashed.
  • Don't you miss the uniform?  I miss the uniform.  Life was much easier.  And I think my DH would join your DH at the museum to mess with people.  He watched that episode of the Duggars with me and was going absolutely crazy.  I had never seen him yell at the TV before.

  • Oh, I loved the uniform!  Well, I complained at the time, but really, to never have to think about what you're going to wear?  So nice.  Who cares if I forgot to do laundry?  I have 10 more of the exact same pleated skirt.  And we could wear a skirt with sneakers.

Sometimes I wish I could be a cartoon character and wear the same thing every day.  It would be so easy.
  • No Catholic school but I did vote for uniforms for my public school.  I hated having to pick out something to wear everyday.  I just wanted to roll out of bed and throw something on.

As for the Duggars, I'm watching them now.  I am completely addicted to them too.  I agree about not putting your family out there for the world to see but I just can't help myself with them.

  • I was taught evolution once I hit high school.  I miss not having to choose clothes but laundry was a must.  Most people only had a couple skirts and sweaters but at least a week's worth of shirts, myself included. by the time I graduated there were about 2 original seams left between my 2 skirts.

I don't miss fighting with my sister for matching knee socks, though.  She lost all my good ones and still managed to usurp all of them.
