AW: Bragging on savings

So, I just have to say something. I am trying not to be too proud of myself, so bare with me.
We are getting married for under $4k and I have a 1/4 of the total saved! That doesn't seem like much, but when you make $8 an hour, it's kind of a big deal. :)

Okay, proud over!

Thanks! I wrote myself a check for the amount I left out last and the majority of this months required savings. I am pretty excited. :)
(Yes, we have a completely separate checking account...) Best decision we ever made.

ETA: So, we almost have the photographer paid off. :)
Or, we have the cake and florist done. Either way, it's a big deal.

    Oh, girl. I don't mind.
At this point, we owe about $2034 to all of our vendors. (That doesn't include decor and things.)
What I did was add up the totals from each vendor after the deposits which is the amount above and divided it evenly from December until May (6 months) and that amount was $340.
Last month, I really only got about $200 saved because I had to buy the invitations, etc.
This month, I have a check for $320 waiting from this paycheck and however much next paycheck.

My FI and I own two cars, two insurance policies and gas them both. (It's a lot)
We also pay rent, food, etc.
So, he has decided to work more when he can to help out with the bills so I don't have to give him as much of my paycheck which helps.
I buy things as I go and use coupons. :)

We have cut back drastically on eating out and we go on one or two dates a month, otherwise we get movies at the library and have "home dates" with special snacks like ice cream or jalapeno poppers.

It takes a lotof discipline to not buy everything I want. I know my goals and that's to be his wife regardless of what that takes.
Heck, I would've married him in blue jeans and a tee shirt.

  • Great work, definitely something to be proud of, no matter how much you make!  I'm a firm believer that you can have an amazing wedding on any budget, so kudos to you for knowing what your budget limitations will be, and for reaching those goals!  Definitely something to be proud of :)

  • Great job!

Our budget is $4k also. I have bills to pay off right now, but I will be done with them at the end of Feb!!!! Then I can save $1,200 by our wedding. I have been buying little things here and there as I have extra money. And putting away any extra cash I come into like Christmas bonus, and money I get from watching my niece. I also make $8/hour. It really sucks! haha We only have $800 left to pay after his parents contribution, so we will have money left over for our savings or HM. FI is paying for the honeymoon out of his (soon to be ours) savings account.
