Where does he come up with this?

So I posted earlier about the frustrating music situation I'm in with my fiance right now and it hasn't gotten too much better.  We have been discussing it more and I've continued to tell him how I feel about everything and his new idea is for us to get quotes for some DJs and then send in a deposit to one that isn't too expensive and has good reviews (we're about 4 hours away from where we're getting married so a lot of our planning is long distance).  Then if it turns out that his brother is able to provide the music for our wedding then he wants to cancel the DJ!  I feel like that is such a terrible idea!  We're going to go through all the trouble of booking a DJ, planning out our whole ceremony and reception and then possibly not use them!  I find that so rude!  Then we would have to go through all the trouble of planning out the ceremony and reception again and purchase all of the songs since his brother doesn't actually do weddings.  I really just don't know where to go from here.  I would feel terrible for picking out a DJ and then not using him when he could be working with someone who knows for sure they're going to use him.  I just don't get my fiance right now.

  • Tell him to let his brother off the hook & have his brother enjoy the wedding, book another dj.

  • I would keep the DJ. Buying all the music is going to cost about the same as the DJ or at least the deposit. It's expensive. You may as well have the DJ.
FI, I think, is just trying to be helpful. My FI does the same things.
Just explain to him that losing the deposit and buying all of the music is silly when you will probably just save the money by using the DJ.
If you doesn't believe you, think about how many songs you will have to buy. 300 or so?
    300 x 1.29 = 387 plus any equipment costs.

Also, if FI's brother doesn't normally DJ weddings, why risk having a bad night and a stressful situation. You can't tell FI's brother that he sucked if he did. Does FI's brother expect payment? Will you have a contract with FI's brother?
Having a contract will insure either the DJ or the brother HAS to be there unless by some act of God they can't.

This.  Explain you want FBIL to be able to relax and enjoy himself and have fun with you guys, not man the music booth all night long.

Your FI is worried that the DJ will talk all night, right?  Do you know if there are many DJs in your area who are decently hands-off?  I don't like the really loud & flashy DJs either, so I found one who doesn't do any of the games or anything; he'll introduce us, he'll announce things, he'll take requests, but he won't be very talkative at all - and he still does a great job getting the party and fun going with his music selections :)

  • I'm also with Bonnie, I'd just hire a DJ and let your FBIL enjoy the wedding.
