June 2012 Weddings

Major vent!

My FI is an officer. At the beginning of the year he had to put his days off in. He's 6th to get the schedule book. He sat down put in his days off, our vacation and wedding days and honeymoon.

Well.... he didn't get our wedding day off, didn't get the day after off either. I'm pissed at his coworkers bc everyone jumped and took our wedding day off without thinking, hey my FI needs the day off to GET MARRIED!

Then the person who approves and disapproves is going to be at the wedding as well. What? My FI followed the rules and made sure there was coverage. I'm so pissed!

What a bunch of assholes! They'll just have to figure it out because a weddinmg Trumps everything else. I doubt they'll say that he has to work on his wedding day and they'll just figure something out.

  • Oh wow!  That would really set me off too.  I'm sure they'll be understanding.  He'll just have to go and explain to whomever the situation.  They should be able to get coverage.

He told his sergent and lieutenant before he put his days in. They can resubmit in Feb but he's 6th so he still doesn't know if he'll get the days off.

Ladies it's not so easy to just say, I'm getting married I need these days off. I wish it was like a regular job :(

I guess he will just have to go into work then. Gotta love the union mentality!

</div><div>Exactly! I'm disappointed in his whole squad. My FI is so pissed. He works midnight and came home at 7. He can't even sleep :(</div>
  • That really sucks. I am sure they didn't put two and two together. I know I don't, and feel stupid later. I hope if he goes in to talk to them they can ask someone if they could pretty please work this day.

I hope they can help him resolve this and see things through more clearly. This is causing him undo stress and puts you and him in tough bind. Police officers are supposed to stick together not work against one another! I will pray you for you both and a speedy resolution!

Hopefully there will be at least one nice person who offers to give up their days for him.
  • Thanks ladies. He has someone for our wedding day. He's going to talk to someonr hopefully tonight. I'm just in amazement.
  • What assholes! Honestly, he should talk to the guys ahead of him and say "hey, look guys, you can pick any other days, but please, someone leave my wedding day open".  Hopefully those guys are un-asshole enough to let him have it.  I would have such a harf time being on a police squad with guys who can't even have my back in a non-life threatening situation...I can't even imagine how selfish they'd be in a life-threatening one.
  • He's such a nice guy. He's having such a hard time with what happened. I'm sre it wasn't malicious but damn. One of his fellow officers who is 2nd for the book was ranting on fb as well. It's just crazy for him to have to go back to work the night of our wedding.
  • My dad was a firefighter so I know what you mean about the days off. And if you have the day off they can technically call you in and order you for overtime (hence my father training us at a very young age never to answer when the town called). Is he able to get a swap for those days??
  • Hopefully someone will realize what they did and will work that night for him. Maybe someone just forgot that was the wedding day for you FI (or they were so excited that they wanted to make sure they would be able to attend?) and didnt think that "Wait, he NEEDS that day off...he's getting married". Good luck to him. Let us know how it works outs

  • I would definitely talk to the people that took your day. Explain the situation to them and if they're decent people they'll move (hopefully) Good Luck! Keep us posted!
  • Oh wow. I'm so sorry. I can only  imagine the stress it is causing for the two of you. I hope it gets straighten out soon.

  • If he talks to people & they don't let him have the day then i would never fill in for them again & anytime they asked i would say oh? You wanted me to work my wedding day so sorry if i don't feel working for you anymore.

Good luck, i hope he is able to get it off.

This.  Hopefully they'll let him take the day off instead.

  • After a whole morning of being furious, I'm trusting that the situation will be resolved. If we have to reschedule the honeymoon so be it.
  • That is awful. I know how it is though. I am 4th in line to get vacation days. Lucky for me I work with all women and they were kind enough to not take my wedding off.
