Addressing envelopes before stuffing them?

I stuffed about half of our invites and now I am thinking it woud be a better idea to address them first. What are you doing?

FWIW, I am using a sharpie or a caligraphy pen.

Re: Addressing envelopes before stuffing them?

  • I would address first cause you'll probably mess one or two up (I did) and I wouldn't want to risk any bleeding through.
  • I am addressing first, partly because I can get started on that while I'm still waiting for the invitations back from the printer. I am also using a calligraphy pen.

  • Absolutely addressing them first. Like PP mentioned, mistakes might be made and I dont want the ink bleeding through and ruining the invites.

  • I addressed them first.
When you do, fold a sheet of lined paper & put it inside. This will help you to write them out nice & straight.

  • Yes, yes, yes. Isn't the envelope a little pumpy with the enclosures? When you work with a calligrapher, you give them the envelopes only. Makes sense to me.
  • I think you should address them unstuffed. What if the pen bleeds through? That would be horrible!!

That is a brilliant idea. I wish I had the patience to do that with 200 invitations.

I always address any envelope pre-stuffed. I hate writing the return address only to write over the fold or the edge of the paper inside of it.

  • I took a business card and used that as a guide to keep writing straight.

    Definitely address before stuffing them!

What a great idea! I'm definitely doing this (if I can see the lines through the envelope - maybe if I darken the lines first somehow.)! That's one thing I'm worried about - my handwriting is decent, but I can't write in a straight line to save my life!

  • Same as PP. I am addressing them first. We are using pocket folds and the envelope would be to bumpy.

  • I will be addressing them first so they look cleaner, avoid bleeding, and if I mess up I can just throw out the envelope.

This. I started addressing mine by hand and messed up a bunch. I'm glad I didn't have anything in the envelopes. I'm using labels now because I can't get my handwriting to look presentable.
