money dance ??

Re: money dance ??

  • I think they are tacky. We will NOT be having one.
  • As of now, we plan on doing one, since they are very common and accepted in my area. I've never been to a wedding without one, and never saw/heard any controversy over them until coming on TK.

I would suggest talking it over with your family so you know for sure how they would feel, and then discuss your feelings and any concerns with your FI. I like DodgersBride suggestion of still doing it, but without the money.
  • They are very common in my area and I have been to many weddings where they did this.

We won't be though. I think it's weird to have people pay to dance with me... I would just be uncomfortable, and FI feels the same way. I can understand why people do it, and I can understand why people don't. OP, if you're not into it, don't do it!

  • I have never been to a wedding that did NOT do a dollar dance. In fact I didn't know that it was a controversial topic until joining the boards. I thought it was a tradition that was done at every wedding, along the lines of the bouquet/garter toss!

We will be doing one since that is what our families do. All of the weddings I have been to from my side, FI's side, and all of our friends have had one... no one has ever said they were offended or left the room. Most everyone participates actually and loves trying "to keep the groom away" afterwards.

( for those unfamiliar with the Polish tradition- after you dance with the bride everyone forms a circle around her and after everyone has had a chance the groom has to try to break through the circle to take his bride away)

  • They are pretty common here in Southern California but I DO NOT want one! I think it's so tacky and rude. But FI and FMIL keep trying to convince me it's such a good idea. Ugh...it's not to me.
