Has anyone decided where to register yet?

I know we've had posts talking about whennnn we might register, so I was just wondering if anyone had thought about where they might register yet, when they decide to do so.

I made a table with Macys, BBB, Crate & Barrel, and Williams-Sonoma and compared them on basically everything, like fine china and everyday dishes I might like, bedding, kitchen gadgets, and incentives.  So far it's looking like Macys and BBB, but I know we will use myregistry.com to put everything together and for individual items we might like at other places that we don't want a full registry at (like Target).

  • I think we're going to do Williams Sonoma, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Dillard's.

  • We're doing Macy's for sure. I'm not sure where else. I WISH I had a Williams Sonoma near me!

  • Bed, Bath and Beyond for sure. Maybe Macy's, not 100% sure yet

  • We have decided not to register at all. We have lived together for almost a year and there is nothing that we need. We decided we are going to ask guests to  please donate to the American Cancer Society in memory of his grandmother who passed away in February.

  • Either BBB or Macy's..but I know I only want to register at one place.  For my baby shower I registered at BRU and Target and it was too confusing.  I don't know when I'm going to go register..probably in the fall, and I am definitely going alone so I don't have to listen to FI complain like he did before (and this way, I can pick out all the things I want hehe).

FI and I have been living together for almost 2 years, but there's still stuff we need/want-plus it never hurts to upgrade a few things :-)

  • I know Bed,Bath, and Beyond for sure. But, I can't decide between also registering at Target, Belks, or JCPenny. Undecided I only want to have two registeries so I need to hurry up and decide.
  • Macys and Crate and Barrel. I'm not a BBB fan, but I might get forced into making one.

  • BBB for sure and one other place, but I haven't decided if the second place will be Macy's or Target.  I will probably register after the holidays, in Jan.

  • I'm obsessed with Crate and Barrel! They also have a completion percentage so you can buy things for yourself you don't get from the registry. I think Macy's is a contender, but I know FI would love a BBQ and other back yard things, so there's still more thinking to be done on that front.

My FSIL recommended registering anywhere/everywhere we wanted, and then deciding which registries to give out to people.  It might be a long process (or a TON of fun, depending on how you feel!) but it's easier to register and then not use that registry than try to figure out which places have more things you want beforehand.

  • Macy's and BBB!! I can't wait!

  • OH, also,

I've worked at Target.  I don't want to discourage anyone from registering there, to be honest they sell some pretty sweet stuff, but the turnover rate for merchandise is pretty high - at LEAST once per season, if not a couple of times.

Items like small appliances, basic kitchen tools, and general bathroom furnishings are fine - they don't change often at all.  Same goes for furniture, storage solutions, TVs/DVD players, and basic dishes.

However, decorative items and, to be honest, anything that might constitute something pretty or stylish, will change before your wedding unless you're registering in May (and possibly even after that, I'm not sure when the new set comes out).  This includes picture frames, pillows, curtains, bedding, etc. etc.

And finally, towels go through a GIANT overhaul sometime between November and January where almost all of them go on clearance and get wiped out for everything to start over.

Again, not to discourage anyone.  I'm seriously considering registering there myself - great deals, awesome merchandise, good accessibility to my guests.  But these are things that warrant consideration if you're going to register there for your wedding.  If you do insist on registering for decorative items, I strongly recommend checking your registry and possibly adding to it as you get closer to your date to make sure they're still available or can be replaced.

  • I love Crate & Barrel, but I'm not sure if there are enough around where our guests live to justify registering with them Frown  Plus, they can be fairly overpriced with most of their stuff.

I haven't quite figured out where we'd like to register.  We're hoping to buy a house by the end of this year, so depending on what we figure out we need, that may determine where we register.
  • We're for sure registering at Home Depot (it's where we met because we both worked there...and who doesn't need stuff from there? lol). We're toying with BBB, Kohls, and Macys depending on which dishes and linens and such we like best. I imagine that it'll wind up being BBB just because that store is amazing and has tons of stuff.
  • We registered at Williams Sonoma, Pottery Barn and a local store called Quintessentials that has fine china and other tabletop accessories.

I'm so ready for the time to come when us changing our dates doesn't make us seem BSC and jumping the gun on the timeline for this kind of stuff! Originally, we were only 9 1/2 months out when we registered, so definitely in the normal range...now it looks like we registered over a year and a half out! At least we don't have our wedding website up yet, so the only way your can find or look at our registries is if you specifically search for them.

  • We are thinking definatly Macy's, maybe Bed Bath & Beyond (seems like a staple around here for registries), maybe Target (leaning away from now, due to some feedback we have heard).  I would love to do Crate & Barrell & Williams Sonoma, but they just seem over priced.  I don't see our friends shopping there, but probably my aunts.
It will probably be Macy's & BBB w/ a few things from Target.
    Anniversary
  • We're going with BBB and probably Kohl's...those are the two stores near us and all of our family so it's nice and convenient for everyone.
  • I've also heard some bad things about having a registry though Target, mostly over on the Registry board.  I plan on using myregistry.com for any items at stores other than Macys and BBB, this way everything can be integrated.  Not to sound like a commercial, but its a really cool service!  You can sync all  your in-store registries, everything automatically updates, and you can add stuff from anywhere by putting a button on your browser and/or you can use the scanning option on your phone if you happen to be out and about and find something you want.

Also, I saw Macys at a bridal show and I just thought I'd mention that they have a cool deal when you register there.  You get rewards on anything you buy with your Macys card, and you also get a reward for anything anyone buys off your registry.  I think its like 10% of anything anyone buys, and you get it in the form of a gift card 6 months after your wedding.  I plan to use it to buy any items that don't get bought off the registry, this way I'll be able to use the completion discount, plus I can use the rewards money to buy the items!

  • FI and I have been living together for almost a year but we are still living with "college" grade appliances and mismatched dishes and cookware. I can't wait to have dishes I'm proud enough to entertain with!

We are definitely registering at BBB and most likely Kohl's (I went Gaga in there over the weekend!) and I haven't decided on Target yet. There are things we would like to register there for but I'm a bit turned off by their rigid return policy. It's not very accomodating to those with registeries when people rarely remember to give you the gift receipt. We may just register for a few things we need around the house but the other two stores don't carry.

That's awesome! I'll have to keep that in mind for sure. I think Kohls has some kind of registry reward but I don't know the details...going to research that one. :)

Target's return policies are actually not quite as rigid as they seem, and most managers will give it to you anyway.  They're mainly written so rigidly to keep people from conning the store, which happens a LOT at places like Walmart (worked there for a summer, too; we got back some truly disgusting things).  You can do returns and exchanges based off of your drivers license or state ID for up to $70 per year if you don't have a gift receipt or other proof of purchase.

I hope this helps - honestly, I'm not trying to talk anyone in or out of anything, I just know that accurate information is important to have when making these decisions.

  • We haven't decided, but we're thinking BBB and Macy's. I love Kohl's home section too, so we may consider that as well.

I've heard some negative reviews regarding Target's return policy as well, but a friend of mine was registered there for her baby shower and said she had no issues with returns afterwards. I guess it just depends on what/how much you are returning? I don't know.

  • williams and sonoma and REI for sure. and probably something like honeyfund.  we aren't registering for a ton of stuff at W&S because some of it is too pricey, and we will probably pick one other place to fill in the gaps.  we went to W&S a few weeks ago (there isn't one where we live) and so we started scanning stuff, but we haven't announced anything yet and probably won't until our invitations go out.
