I won't even get into patient names, but Le-a was a former student of my friend.
  • My friend and I have a list of funny names of freelancers ( she works in payroll so she gets the BEST names). My favorites are Crockett Doob, Fabiola Fungcap, and Christian Von Tippleskirch. All these people have public credits so I'm not "outing" anyone :)

  • I'm not a fan of it spelled Kartyr.  It makes me think of a girl that did her student teaching in my school last year named Katya.  We come across some crazy names and spellings in teaching.

My name is Carrie and when I was younger I never knew of anyone that had my spelling.  I had seen Kerry, Keri, Kari, Carey, but never my spelling.  Now, as an adult, I think mine is the most common.  However if I'm speaking I get all sorts of different names: Karen, Kara, Terry.

When FI and I have kids we want Logan for a boy and Riley for a girl.  The only problem with Logan is that my friend (who was admitted to the hospital today for high BP and may be induced anytime) may name her son Logan.  I guess she's got first dibs.
  • This post got me thinking....I remember being pregnant with my kids and contemplating forever if they would like their names.  Personally, I'm one that likes the unusual spelling....

My daughter's name is Kaliyah  --- pronounced kaleah, we mostly get cal-leah
The twins names are more common ---Jaiden and Elijah---we chose to spell Jaiden w/an "i" to be more in unison with his brothers.

<div>Why? Because she's pregnant first? I wouldn't give up my favorite baby name because someone else used it first.  </div>
  • We are good friends so it would be weird because we get together a lot.  We've got plenty of time to think though....we aren't planning to have kids until at least a year after we are married.
  • I am not a fan of changing names that much. I like different spellings, but sometimes they don't even make sense! Like the letters don't even sound like that, ever, so why try to make people pronounce it that way?! Poor kids!

We wanted to use James as a middle name for a boy, but FIs brother and his wife took it. I know that you can use the same middle names for kids, but FSL wouldn't like that so much, so I am not going to rock the boat. :( They didn't know we wanted it, but FILs did. No one to blame, it is just a bummer.

One of FIs aunts took one of her sister's names that she had picked out. It is still talked bout to this day, almost 30 years later...

  • I agree that it does look more feminie spelled that way. I grew up with some kids have some interesting names and spelled very weird!
  • As a Jaime, nobody ever spells my name right. Ever! I hate when I email someone and sign my name and they spell it wrong in their reply! FI's brother is Kraig because they all (FI's parents, FI, and 2 brothers) all start with a K. I told FI we're not continuing the trend! As a result, my kids are going to have plain names that are spelled basically one way!
    Anniversary
  • The craziest name I ever saw was a person who applied at a restaurant I worked at. Honest to goodness, her name was Tequila. I have no idea how you take someone seriously  named Tequila.
  • I often wonder if people realize what it's like for children with names that are different or unique.

Growing up I used to hate my name. At one point I started telling people, "I am not a gun, car, or water filter."  (Brietta turned into Beretta or Britta) I mostly get called Brianna. What gets me, though, is people have no problem pronouncing Henrietta, so why can't they get Brietta??

Now that I'm older, I've just learned to say my name slower and annunciate the Ts when I'm correcting people and when they finally get it right they always compliment how pretty my name is. I still feel like an idiot saying my name slowly and deliberately, but I've seen a lot worse.
  • Oh! I forgot about my friend in grade school. Her incredibly unfortunate last name was D*ck. She had an uncle named Harry....

And wow, I wonder what it's like having a name that can't get through filters.
  • My name is Melissa, when I used to work customer service and would have to call companies I would forever get called Martha - WTF?!

The last job I had, I was in charge of screening the incoming applications and setting up the interviews. One girl's name was Cinnamon.

And while I was doing my interning, there was a patient named Candida....as in the bacteria that causes yeast infections :S

FI knew twins named Lemonjello and Orangejello! I think Kartyr looks like a girls name. I knew a boy named Huntyr. He had a y instead of e I guess because his mom, dad & older brother all had y in their names.

OMG! My FMIL knew this set of twins too! She talks about them all the time!

Well Kartyr is certainly a yooneek spelling! As a substitute teacher, I see a lot of fancy names and yes, la-a (la dash ah) actually does exist. It drives me crazy when I see stuff like the name Madison spelled with 2 y's (madysyn) or some other assortment of random letters that looks completely ridiculous but apparently is pronounced Stephanie!
  • OH I forgot about my favorite! My FI's friend got married and when we received the invitation I noticed her name was C'hardonay. Now I assumed it was pronounced chardonay, like the wine, but nope. It is pronounced see-hardonay. I almost couldn't keep a straight face when I was introduced to her!
