In Response to Re: Who wants to play a game? : My favorite thing is just being in Central Park or Carl Schulz Park. I also love walking across the Brooklyn Bridge and getting pizza at Grimaldis and ice cream at the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory which are right under the bridge.  I Seriously. Totally. Utterly. Loathe and Despise Time Square. I will do anything to avoid going there, I usually send visitors on their own. I also hated taking people down to the World Trade Center (before the memorial opened up). For years it was just a hole in the ground, you couldn't see anything, and it's just a total construction mess down there. I actually haven't been inside the memorial yet, we'll probably go this summer.

<div>I went to the memorial last September and it is incredibly moving. I did some name rubbings and just it is one of the most moving things I have ever done in my life. </div>

Before I went shopping, I told him I liked the mermaid style dresses and he said, make sure you get a good pair of flippers. I didn't end up getting a mermaid style dress and got a ball gown instead. The only thing he knows is that I love it and I don't know how I am going to sit down at the reception with the big slip underneath of it.

<div>Dealing with his father and his wife - they are interesting people. His dad's wife's birthday is the day before our wedding (the day of the RD) and apparently she has "birthday needs which need to be accommodated" REALLY? What is she? 5? Go out to lunch that day and if we are feeling nice and you haven't pissed us off, we will toast you. </div>

I'm a tad worried about mine too but my ceremony will be 20-30 minutes so I definitely am wearing it all day. I have my final fitting March 12 I'm so excited! I actually took my photos of my dress (except 1) down from my FB because I was getting comments like you shouldn't put these up and whatnot. I finally just say screw it and I'll just upload my bridal portraits and wedding photos when they're done
  • His father is just as bad, like barely acknowledges FI anymore unless he needs something with a computer. Left him the weirdest voice mail on FI's birthday. Just don't get it.
  • Zims are you nervous about having your final fitting so far out from the wedding?
  • I tried on about 10 I think. The first time I went in, I "knew" I wanted a mermaid/trumpet style. They didn't flatter me. I tried on about 5 more that day and found a ballgown dress I liked but didn't love. I did some more looking around and saw "the" dress in a magazine and knew it was the one. I tried it on and as soon as they put the veil on, the tears came and I fell in love with it.
Daria, what are you looking forward to the most about being married?
    Posted by Ash61612
The wedding itself-hearing his vows. We are writing our own and my FI is not the sort of person to really verbalize his feelings so I'm eager to see what he has to say. Marriage in general, I think operating as a unit, rather than two separate people. Right now we have separate finances, separate schedules, we spend a lot of holidays separately because of the logistics of seeing each of our families. In 6 years, I've never gotten to spend Thanksgiving with him! It will be nice making decisions for the both of us.

Zims-what do you think is the biggest misconception about military wives?

No because I've stayed around the same weight. My dress is a 4 and that's what I usually wear. It actually felt loose in the beginning but they just needed to pull the corset tighter. The only alterations I got done were a bustle and cups sewn in

We live in NYC, our parents both live in PA but about 2 hours apart and we don't have a car. And my FI is an only child so he has MASSIVE guilt not seeing his parents on holidays. I think we are going to alternate Thanksgiving, Christmas we will probably spend Christmas Eve one place and Christmas Day with the other set of parents. And most of the other holidays, like Easter, mother's day, father's day we will probably go separately since i don't feel strongly about spending those together.

Well there are some wives that give the whole group a bad name like flaunting/wearing their husband's rank and whatnot. There was actually a blog post that went around the web a couple weeks ago. It was awful. Her husband is a recruiter and AD Army and she said there's a National Guard base nearby and those wives can't call themselves real Army Wives because National Guardsmen aren't real soldiers. It was so bad it made it to multiple military websites, Military brides on TK, Military Nesties, and her husband was an idiot and backed her crazy viewpoint. His command found out and issued an apology and he got in trouble. Stuff like that gives us all a bad name

    Posted by daria24
I don't know if this was directed at anyone, but I noticed no on answered. I was just addressing some invitations last night and came across two I'd rather not invite but I have to.

    1) My cousin's wife who didn't invite FI to their wedding even though we were engaged. I'd never actually not invite her, but dang is it tempting.

    2) My ex-boyfriends parents. His dad is the organist, I'm in choir and every member of choir is invited to the wedding. I can't leave them out.
