NWR: How do you Cope??? Maybe TMI for some

Okay so, I am one of those fortunate(or unfortunate) divas that doesn't get a regular menustration. I mean like four- five months and she won't make a peep. Needless to say my doctor was not too happy about this when I went for my annual. Needless to say they diagnosed me with PCOS(polycystic ovarian syndrome), which means I do not ovulate, gain weight that regular dieting doesn't help. Of course, when we try TTC I will more than likely have to see a fertility specialist, but for now I am in believing in God for him to do what's best. Anywho, so the doctor started me on Loestrin bc pills, before my cycle even started, I was cramping for about 10 days straight. The other day my cycle started and I have been cramping like nobody's business, I mean Midol, Aleve, Tylenol, Tylenol w/Codeine, nothing is working. I am to the point I may just go to the ER tomorrow if the pain is still persisting. Tonight I had to pull over the car and have fi start driving because the cramps got that bad on our way home. Please please tell me what remedies do you ladies use for menustration cramps. Sorry for the TMI.... Help a sista out:)BTW I slept with the heating pad last night, I woke up about 4 am and tossed the damn thing across the room.

I could be wrong but I thought BC was also given to subside cramps as well. You may want to try calling your Dr and telling him your symptoms before making that trip to the ER though.

hmmm, Loestrin is doing that to you! I had to get off of that stuff because it never made me have a cycle. You should certainly let your doctor know that... For the cramping, I drink tea and take extra strength tylenol, it usually helps after the meds are in my system. I hope you feel better and sorry to hear about the PCOS and other things you're experiencing right now.

I don't know if you like taking prescription pain medication ( I know some don't). But every since my fibroid issues I have severe cramps. The doctor prescribed me Tramadol and it has worked wonders for me. I just take it when I feel like I'm going towards the white PMS light. I hope you get to feeling better soon hon.

I was prescribed Naproxen for my cramping and if I don't have that on hand then I take Aleve (it has naproxen in it). The naproxen has muscle relaxing somewhere in the mix so it helps the cervix calm down. The heating pad works and tea too. Sometimes you can take the highest dose possible (check with the dr first) but tylenol you can take 975 mg which is like 3 pills. For the future if you know when it is coming start taking the meds before and it will make the cramping more tolerable

I've had PCOS (well that I've known of anyways) since August of 2006. I found out about it from a RE (reproductive endocrinologist) and I wasn't suprised actually. I knew what it was from doing some research online before I found out about me having it. So when I was told I was kinda relieved but then I was angry because I'm the only granddaughter left that doesn't have kids (out of 12) and I know that it is going to be a challenge. As far as my period goes it use to be all over the place sometimes I would have it for about 3 months and then when it came it would last almost a month. And the cramps are so painful. I just try to lay there and not think about it and mine tend to go away soon after. I would suggest maybe a warm bath and regular exercise even it's just regular walking. I've learned that the best thing for PCOS is watching what you eat (try to eat low gi foods) and exercise. Also check out this site www.soulcysters.net it is a very helpful site I use and you can get other ladies tips who have PCOS also. I hope this helps.

800mg motrin (takes about 30 min to kick in) and warm compresses. I've tried es tyl, naproxen (which is aleve- prescription strength), even lortab. the motrin/ibuprofen works the best. If you have GI/somach issues you cant do this.

I was diagnosed with PCOS five years ago, so I feel you.  As a result, I have high cholesterol and am insulin resistant (on the fast track to diabetes) and I take more than $100 of medication monthly.  This is not an immediate cure for your cramps, but many of the symptoms of PCOS can be reversed with weight loss, at least that is what I have been told.  But I have not experienced this first hand, I am still battling with the weight loss.  I have not experienced unbearable pain, with the exception of one time when I blacked out from the pain.  Aside from that, I either have a high threshold for pain, or the Aleve is working just fine.  I am currently on Orthotricyclen Lo and that has helped tremendously with my mentral problems.  Let me know if you ever need to talk.  Sorry I don't have much more to help with your pain issue.  But I don't mind offering support.  Hope you feel better.
