African American Weddings

How Long?

So I was inspired by Carla1019 to ask this question to you ladies after reading the knottie of the week post.  For those of you who want children (or more children with DH), how long are you going to wait to start "trying" after the wedding?

Neither I or FI have any children right now, but we agreed I would come off birth control 6 months after the wedding.  I didn't wanna wait too long as I am 31 (will be 32 when we're married) and want at least 2 children.

hahaha my answers is a str8 copy n paste

wow personally i do not want 1 the FI has 1 already and the mom is being a meanie(polite B) but i went thru some personal tragedy at 14 surrounding kids/miscarriage/molestation so that kind of took my mind off kids but I want to wait should i change my mind once he lives here in Canada with me and I have a stable job and he has a job as daycare is so expensive and i at least want to be half way prepared

We are going to wait at year before TTC.  Not sure when I should come of BC though, hmmm good question.  We want to build our emergency fund back up and get some money into savings first.

I also want 2 kids and will be 31 next year, H already has 1, she doesn't live in the state with us.  H is fine if I don't want any but I need to have my own child if you understand that.

Posted by djscat[/QUOTE] LOL this is so funny and how FI feels. We both want 1 and FI is 32 and I'm 29 but I said we should wait a year or aleast until we get a house. I keep hearing a lot of people say wait a least a year and now IF is leaning more towards that but at first he was like he wanted me to get prego the same day lol

Sounds like my FI being that we are celibate now.  He can't wait for us to be married! LOL At first, I wanted to wait a year but I figured it would take at least 3 months for the BC to get out of my system, so who knows, at the actual year mark I just may be preggo!

I have 3 kids and FI has 1.  We both want 1 more but my tubes are tied and I am a little older (33 but 34 by the end of the year) so we are getting them untied right away.  We are praying the procedure works and that I get pregnant some time in 2012.  Keep me in your prayers ladies!

FI and I are still on the fence about kids. Currently, neither of us have children. I am 36 and he is 45.

My OB/GYN says I have time if I want to have a baby so not to worry about TTC immediately.  She also said that I should be prepared for the possibility of getting pregnant immediate after coming off the pill, so I should not stop taking them until I am absolutely certain that I want kids. Doctors will put women on the pill who are TTC for 3-4 months and then take them off so they can try to get pregnant.  She said it matters not that I have been on the pill for 18 years. If i stop taking them I can get pregnant very quickly.

For now, FI and I are not making any huge lifestyle choices regarding kids.  For those of you who want to conceive, make sure that you have a great gyno on your team.

@ DJSCAT:  If you live in the Bay Area, check out Dr. Kimberly Hicks (internal medicine), Dr. Shirley Tucker-Harris, or Dr. Yvette Gentry.  They are all amazing AA OB/GYNs who are younger and very well respected in the area.

@wallacej:  I was very focused on finding a black female OB/GYN.  I met one that was came really highly recommended, but was lackluster at best. I really liked the doctor she shared an office with.  I asked her if she was taking new patients and what insurance she accepted.  In the meantime, I saw her speak at a women's health forum and was reallyWhen I had the chance to change my insurace, I made the switch and got on her book immediately!!! I am so happy with her that I am trying to keep her as long as I can.

It may take a little trial and error, but if you don't connect with someone I say keep looking.
