Engagement ring vs. Wedding band

My boyfriend FINALLY got down on one knee for new years and asked me to marry him (ring in hand this time lol). But the issue is he wants me to wear the wedding band and not the engagement ring. The original engagement ring he bought me a few months a ago was stolen by his family and he has been working to replace it while trying to move from DC to Baton Rouge where I currently live for school.
He decided to buy the replacement ring from my family jeweler in Houston and hopes to have it by the end of Jan but in the mean time he has requested that I wear the wedding band until he can get the engagement ring. I honestly don't mind because I know some women who never get an engagement ring just a wedding band but I kind of feel like it maybe looked at by others (such as family and friends) as out of order or untraditional. I am returning to law school on monday and the ring is currently at the jeweler being resized and I just wanted to know what other people thought about my situation. Any thoughts?

  • Wear it and be proud. It's only temp and i really wouldn't worry about what other people think. i got my band sized early and cheated and wore it sometimes.

  • Im with Tasha. Just to make him feel good and put a smile on his face I would wear til the e-ring comes in. Its only temporaily !
  • At the end of the day, if you want to wear the band, wear the band. Then switch it later. Or you can be ringless until the real thing comes in. People gotta hate regardless. I would go with the former, just based on expereince. But I reall do I feel your concern. Its is awkard when people ask me when I got enagaged when they see my ring...when Ive been enagaged the whole time they knew me.

  • If I was in a similar situation, I would probably go ringless but before I would make the decision I would talk to the FI to understand his thoughts. If I see that it means a lot to him, I would wear the band. So, I understand your reservations. So my advice is to check with the FI and hear his stance. Congrats on the ring BTW.

Also, what law school in Baton Rouge?? and what year?? I recently graduated from law school last May. Good Luck and Happy Planning!

  • I think its up to you. I would go ringless or wear a fakie engagement until I got my ring but if  you like it rock it!
