So my reception meal is fancy, huh???

Our reception meal is plated and option of chicken marsala, grill pork loin with pear chutney and vegetarian option of four cheese tortellini.

My mom tells me that her friend said my meal is fancy and she plans on just eating a salad because she does not know what these food items are. She asked where is the macaroni and cheese, greens, meatballs and chicken wings. Wth?Lol  I told my mom she better pick a meal because no matter what we have to pay for it.

I'm having a sit down meal as well...one of my cousins texted me the other day to say she plans on bringing her hot wings in her purse cause she's gonna be hungry lol

Ummm yeah sounds like my FI's family!!!  LOL, she's making it seem like your menu is in another language.  Chicken, pork and pasta....lol too much.  I'm sure I will be getting a few of the same responses...but they won't know until the night of lol

Sounds exactly like DH's family!  My MIL said that one of the cousins called her and asked why there was fish on the menu and my MIL said, there isn't fish on the menu what are you talking about?  The cousin said, I'm looking at fish on the rsvp card and I can't pronounce it.  Turns out, she was looking at filet mignon and thought it was fish!  I mean seriously.  

Then one of DH's uncles said that he picked the filet mignon because he didn't know how to pronounce so it must've been good.  Such a shame!

I get that people want to eat food that they are comfortable with, but everything is not meant to be eaten in a wedding gown. I have not settled on food just yet, mostly because I trust my caterer to come up with something based on the concepts of southern food with the sophistocation of California Cuisine . I am serving the meal family style since the wedding is small and we all know each other.  I trust my caterer enough that she can surprise me with final selections.  

Starters

Shrimp and grits 

Roasted Beet and Orange salad 

Fried green tomatoes (heirlooms and mozzarella can be substituted if they are out of season)

Corn dog hotlink bites 

 

Main Course

Braised short ribs

Seared catfish or snapper and dirty rice 

Fried chicken

Mac n cheese

Braised kale

Garlic green beans

My mom may do a dessert bar, but I am not committed to it.  Add me to the fancy list.....

Wow and LOL at some of the comments. To the OP, I would simply say it isn't thanksgiving. To the person who thought filet mignon was fish, I simply have no comment. We all have to learn somewhere!
