Tipping Question

So we have our E-pics this weekend and I am wondering do we tip the photographer or not and if so, what would be appropriate. I don't know if this matters, but she's only doing our E pics, we have a different photographer in Vegas for the wedding. TIA

If she owns her own buisness then I would not tip.

MsAmeera - I have noticed several people saying that if someone owns the business you don't have to tip. I've never heard that before coming to TK.
Can you explain to me the reason behind this, I'm really curious.

    Thanks!

I was kinda thinking the same thing.

Then I'm wondering if I just hand her cash, is that the trend or a cashiers check, or does whatever work.

For people who own their own businesses, as most wedding vendors do, tipping is not necessary. The idea is that, as a business owner, you set a price that you expect to be paid, and you control the price (i.e., you should build in your own tip). People who don't own a business are not setting their price, so it's nice to give them a little extra.

Now the exception of course is if they provide exceptional service, for example the photographer discussed a session for 1 hour but stayed 2 hours and exceeded the couple’s expectations. Business owners typically do not have to “pay out” to other parties. I think it is important to remember tipping is never necessary, but always appreciated.

Feel free to tip any vendor that you feel went above and beyond. The best "tips" especially for a photographer is a referral anything else is extra.

Here's an article from Martha Stewart Weddings that says the same thing that MsAmeera mentioned.

I wouldn't tip them even if they don't own their own business unless they went above and beyond their job description. There's already a huge markup one everything simply because you mention the word "Wedding."

I got engaged at the Palms :) very pretty - I looked at it but the room i loved was too small for my wedding - a smaller wedding would be great there though :)

LOL this is so true...I'm still laughing at my make up artist who said to do my makeup for the wedding it would be 300. I normally go to her for special occasions etc and pay 40-50 for a full face of makeup. When she said 300 I asked her if she was going to give me a new face for the price.

I did not tip for my epics either but they are doing our wedding photos as well so I will probably tip them then. I had never heard that you don't tip for business owners before coming to the knot...I always tip my hairdresser and she owns her own business.
