Canopy decor

So our wedding is outside with a 30x45' canopy.  This style to be precise

My original plan was to hang between the legs (7.5' space in between each leg) and along the perimeter of the canopy one of these lanterns (in white, not color) in the middle

and 2 tissue pomanders (one on each side of the lantern).

The reason for the lanterns is two-fold: A) provides some more light and B) using citronella candles keeps mosquitos away (was BM at MOH's wedding which was July 7th and was EATEN by mosquitos when the sun went down!)

I have the lanterns.  Need to order the candles.  I have the supplies for the tissue poms, but after attempting to make even 1, have decided it's not worth it and am totally willing to return the supplies I have (and haven't used) and simply purchase tissue poms from an Etsy seller.  Why?  Because I'd need to make 40 tissue poms.  No way, Jose, not worth my time.  If it was like 10, sure.  But not 40.

Am I crazy?

Difference between DIY and Etsy seller is about $40 after I return the foam balls, tissue, rotary cutter, etc.

And because I'm in a photoshopping mood, my mock-up:

i don't think that the pomanders are necessary but i'd spend the extra to get them done if you can't live without them. otherwise i'd save the money.

Ditto Sarack. They are time consuming (and I only have 12!). Take a look at how many hours you'd have to spend to make them...I think that would be worth the $40 difference. I don't think you need them at all, but if you feel like it, then save your energy for something else.

If I don't do the pomanders, any suggestions for how to do the perimeter of the canopy?  Just the lanterns?  I guess the pomanders I thought might soften the look with the lanters a bit?  No?

i agree with everyone else, that the pomanders aren't really that necessary. they're cute, but like you said, not worth the time for you to do them. i think it looks just fine with the lanterns only. maybe do 2 lanterns for each section if you want more? what about twinkle lights on the perimeter?

we rented a tent for our wedding, and we're just doing twinkle lights around the perimeter of the tent, and paper lanterns inside over the dance floor. maybe look into small paper lanterns? they're super cheap.

ps- where are you getting citronella candles from?? i hadnt even THOUGHT about mosquitos! thanks!

I haven't decided on the source for the citronella candles yet.  Bought from 2 different places and going to burn them this weekend to see A) how they burn and B) how they smell.  I can let you know how it goes and where I end up with if you want?  One of the sources does soy candles (tends to last longer than regular parrafin) and the other is just the regular candles.

i like the added splash of color the  pomander balls add and think 40 is worth it...but that's just me.

With jennlin on this. I like the color it adds, plus with the candle light reflecting off the color of the pomanders, it's like mood lighting with all the excessive cost.

Otherwise, I'd say flowers, except I think that might actually end up being more expensive than the poms.

I do like the splash of color, but yeah, try maybe comparing the cost of tissue pomanders from Etsy seller versus the same quantity of little red paper lanterns?

I'm with Jennlin, I say the extra color is good and $40 doesn't seem unreasonable.  I'm also with KST_ that red paper lanterns are a great alternative and could be cheaper and look just as pretty.

The other reason I would go with something besides the lanterns is that I'm kind of clumsy (really) and without extra stuff hanging I would probably end up hitting my head on the lantern if it was low enough and the extra color would help keep me from running into them....it would really suck to catch my hair on fire (but would make for an awesome wedding story)!

are they going to be hung high enough for people to walk under?? or there will be NO place for people to walk into the tent without ducking if they're taller than me? :)

i agree that the splash of color is worth it. So I say if the total cost is below 100 (i'm too cheap to spend more than that on paper.. haha), I'd do it if people won't be running into them, the wind won't blow the pomanders into the candles and light on fire, and they aren't that big of a hassle to fluff once they get here from the etsy seller. :)

I need to double check the height, but I'll be going with 12" pomander balls and if I recall correctly, the height of the tent is 8' tall along the perimeter?  I know the lanterns are 8" and those will be in them middle.  It's 7.5' between each tent leg.
