Indian Songs Challenged - HELP PLS!

Hey ladies, so my fiance and I don't listen to Indian music but of course, most indians do and will expect us to play a lot of indian music at our reception.  Making matters worse is that our DJ is not indian.  He is really good friends with our friend who is Indian and who used to be a DJ and so he has our friend's entire indian music collection, but I have a feeling its not up to date with new songs.

Can you please tell me names of new indian songs that will be sure to keep our guests on the dance floor?  Upbeat, fun songs...

Thank you!!!!!

I've been begging music off of friends lately for this.  Some of it I just pulled from iTunes  by putting in songs I liked and seeing what they recommended.  A friend gave me a Best of 2010 collection that I gave to my DJ.  I figured since we are having a wide mix of people, I'd hand over the music well ahead of time so the DJ could listen and figure out what is what.  I provided a list of a few songs I particularly liked and am leaving the rest to the DJ.

I would say make sure your friend who used to be a DJ who is Indian for cues on what would and would not go over big with your friends.  I know my FI and his friends don't like all genres of Indian music.  That way the DJ can play stuff that makes everyone happy.

Oh, also, check out soundtracks from movies.  They usually have fun dance songs!!

the iTunes thing is a great idea!  What are some song titles that you tried?  Also, the movies thing is a good idea too, but I don't even know what song new movies are...:(  Any suggestions on song titles?

    Thanks!

I'm no good at what is good or bad and it seems everything I pick, my FI hates.  But I would start with any movies you like.  Once you look up one or two songs you like, iTunes will start suggesting stuff.

I don't know how old you are, but some songs I know we're going to play are from a movie that was popular in the late 90's.  It is called Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.  I like the music from it and apparently it is one of those soundtracks *everyone* knows.  I also just searched for different artists based on what I was liking, etc.  Also, you might want to search for A.R. Rahman, he is the one who did the Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack, which might be more familiar to you non-Indian guests.

    Good luck!!

Yes, I'm familiar with DDLJ :D  but, I was also wanting more newer stuff. I know my DJ will have that older music b/c he just received all his indian music from our friend last year...I was more wanting suggestions on new music...but again, i'm not familiar with music or movies, so I'm not even sure what to type into iTunes...

I like the A.R. Rahman idea, but I guess I might have to listen to the song a couple times to know if I like it..and then again, I don't know if its a popular song that everyone will know and want to dance to...

I think my best bet is to just keep asking my family for their top choices...ladies, let me know if you have any other specific recommendations!! :)  Thanks so much for the help!!

DH is completely obsessed with Sheela ki Jawani...

I have heard it soooo many times and DH doesn't usually like any Bollywood stuff!  We didn't have much new stuff at our reception (we did have some really old Bollywood), except one Hard Kaur song:

I wanted Zoobi Doobi, but DH finds it completely irritating so we gave it a miss.

Great. Now that is stuck in my head.

OP - I don't really have any suggestions, either. But there is a "local" show (I am not sure if it airs outside the NJ/NY/PA area) that is called AVS and they do reviews of the latest movies and music. They might have stuff on their website you might find helpful:
