I've been watching Dog Whisperer

It's on HULU now.WTF @ people letting their dogs get that out of control?  We just watched Chihuahuas from Hell.  I would've been hard pressed not to completely dominate someone else's dog.   I've been through a somewhat similar situation where we dogsat for an extended period of time for a friend.  By the time the dog left, he was 100% better behaved for us than he was his owner.  We tried to teach his owner, but he wasn't interested.I can summarize up every person's problem on that show:  Your dog is not a human (one guy put his dog in time out, WTF, who does that?).I also wanted to beat the woman who ran a pitbull rescue and had El Diablo.  Welcome to the world of I don't know anything about animals, but they're just so fuzzy wuzzy I wanta help.  Errrr.

  • H tries to talk to our dogs like they understand WTF he's lecturing them about.  The letters N and O go together for a reason.  "No," is something they understand.

  • Hank is better behaved when we're sterner and when the people visiting are stern.  He knows who lets him walk all over them.  It's in their body language.Cesar is just so cute though.  I don't think anyone else could do it as well.

  • Oh give that woman a break. She ran a rescue and had mainly pitbulls and was trying to rehab them. She just didn't know WTF to do w/ that little dog, and had tried everything she knew (and had applied to the other dogs she's helped). I completely agree with you on the rest of it though.

  • Ilove, I think I didn't like her b/c she literally knew nothing about animals psychology.  She basically picked dogs that were already submissives or balanced and did some rehabilitation (good food and steady home) and felt like Cesar.  I guarantee it.Granted, at least she recognized her boundaries and didn't take hard cases.  But sometimes, I think rescues like that actually make it harder for the legitimate animals rescues that try to rehab all dogs, hard or not (lack of money/resources to go around).  I think it also encourages people who don't know anything about dogs to try and do what she did, b/c "it comes naturally".  Knowing about dogs DOESN'T come naturally or Cesar Milan and his peers wouldn't have to exist.
