I spent most of last night in ugly tears

My brother, his wife, and 4 kids are more than likely moving to China late this summer for 2 years.  His boss really wants him to do this so they're taking a trip over there next month to check it out. 

Of course it's a great opportunity for them and my sadness is purely selfish.  My whole family was really upset last night.  I think my mom and I called each other twenty times.  We felt pretty stupid for being so upset.

You can't feel stupid for feeling upset. That isn't going to make anything better. You have to honor your own feelings and see where they come from, a place of love. I'd be pretty touched to know that my siblings were that affected by my move if I was in your brother's position. And then remember, it is only two years and as another poster mentioned, this is a chance for you to visit a place you might not have been able to before. 

As a going away gift, buy your brother a web cam and learn how to use Skype. Remind yourself that you'll still be able to be connected to him and your neices/nephews, no matter what the distance.

But try not to hurt yourself further by saying that you shouldn't be upset. You'll move past those feeling more easily if you let yourself feel them.
