rant: removable bra cups in swimsuits & sportswear

I get that cups are awesome. I like the shape, and I like not having to worry about hurting people with my nipples. But WTF? What is the advantage of being able to remove them? It's not like they provide so much padding that OMG your boobs become ginormous! 

All they do is get folded up or twisted around in there, and you have to try to straighten it through a tiny hole that you can fit one and a half fingers through.

Sewn in bra cups wouldn't cost more, would they? I mean, it seems more complex to engineer a solution with the hole in it rather than just sewing everything together. Do they get to use fractions less fabric that somehow hugely increases swimsuit profits?

And really, if you don't like cups at all, there are plenty of swimsuits that come without cups to satisfy your needs.

99% of the yoga tops and swimsuits I've been looking at over the past few weeks have removable cups, AND the fact that they are removable is proudly declared like it's some kind of great feature people whould want, and I don't get it at all.

What am I missing? Do you like removable bra cups in your swimsuits? Why?

I actually have problems finding swimsuits without them (I guess b/c of my chest size).  I loathe them, mainly b/c when you get out of the pool, they stream water and there's no real great way to squeeze water out of them w/out looking like you're grabbing your boobs.

I haven't seen them removable (I also haven't bought a new swimsuit for probably 5 years).  Maybe it's just a new "thing" they can do?

i hate them for the exact reasons you list. also, they absorb too much water. i'd rather a few extra sewn in layers of fabric.

i end up removing the removable cups permanently, and people can write to their congressmen/women about my nipples if they take umbrage.

I'm with Varuna. I avoid the cups if at all possible. Honestly, I'd rather have nips out every where than deal with that itchy mess. Those stupid things make my skin all sensitive and itchy.

i don't understand the purpose at all. i take them out before i even leave the store. i also hate the removable air sacks/pads for bras. in what world does a DD cup need an extra inch of air/fabric in her bra?
