Centerpiece - which is cheaper?

I'm trying to decide on our centerpieces... we like the tall, large floral arrangements in the tall thin vases. We also like the submerged flowers with floating candles. Here's an example I am giving to my florist... http://pic90.picturetrail.com:80/VOL2336/12589424/22684397/377315797.jpg Which do you think would be less expensive?

Re: Centerpiece - which is cheaper?

  • I read that using submerged flowers with candles is a cost effective centerpiece. The thinking was that you use only a few flowers in the submeged and still get a large wow factor. Where as other arrangements (especially tall ones) take a lot of flowers.Good luck planning!!
  • I can't see the pictures, but I was at a craft store yesterday, and the cheapest really tall thin vase they had was about $30 (looked like a gigantic, 3 ft. tall bud vase). Add the cost of the floral arrangement to that, and you could easily sepnd $50-100 per table, depending on the type of flowers, and how "showy" you want them. There was an assortment of other vases, all suitable for submerged flowers, in various sizes and widths, for under $20. Add the cost of a few cut flowers, colored rocks, a floating candle, and maybe some dollar votives surrounding that, and you would spend about $30-35 a table. So I would think going with shorter vases, with submerged flowers and floating candles, or surrounded by dollar votives, would be cheaper.
  • definitely a submerged flower, but if you want to make more of a statement i would go with the floral arrangement in a vase although they can run pretty high depending on what you use. my high floral centerpieces are like 200-250 a centerpiece to give you some sort of idea but he is using tons of flowers in each other so it just depends on what you are envisioning.
  • If you really like the tall vases, there is a way to keep the cost down, if you are willing to DIY the floral arrangement part. Maybe you could get a deal on some vases. The actual floral arrangement doesn't have to be that big. Just being up high and appearing to be perched on top of a tall vase will make it appear much showier. Making flower arrangements is not really hard, it just takes a couple of lessons, and/or a little research on floral design and some practice. You need some floral trays or "cups" which are pretty cheap, about a dollar each, the Oasis wet foam is about a dollar or two per "brick" (which can be divided into about 3 arrangements), and some simple tools and supplies. You can use more greenery to make your inexpensive, showy flowers go further. The greenery covers the foam and the container. Do an image search for that type of arrangement, you'll see the floral part is really just a simple arrangement presented in a "showy" way.
  • At first I thought the tower vases would be too expensive, too, but I read about a cost effective way to make them. I'm buying the vases on e-bay (they seem to be in large quantity there.) I'm using a bridal bouquet to stick into the top, which I also found on e-bay. The bouquet is a little simple, so I'm making them prettier with extra ribbon. Here's a couple pictures at the bottom) that I took inspiration from. http://www.decoratemywedding.com/IMAGES_08/real_weddings/heather2.jpghttp://www.bittersweetweddingdesigns.com/wedding%20(30).JPG
  • I just bought some cylinder vases at the Crate & Barrel outlet store for $3 apiece. Might be a good place to check for the vases.
  • Thanks ladies! That helps a lot!
