yet another favor question

ok i was talking with fiml and she really wants to get us personalized m&m's for our favors (well she wants a big part in all of our edible favors) but her idea is that we should get the little take out boxes or something like that and prefill them all and only give each favor box like 2 m&m's. I think it might look a little dorky with 2 m&m's rolling around inside. What do you ladies think? dorky or no? or any cute ideas i could package it to make it look better?

Re: yet another favor question

  • We included personalized M&M's in our welcome baskets. As a container, we used pillow boxes. The M&M's were put in plastic baggies first (to keep them fresh), and the baggies went into the pillow boxes. The boxes were decorated with ribbon and a label with our names. Each pillow box held about the same amount as a regular size bag of M&M's. I think that just a few pieces of candy would be strange and kind of pointless, so you definitely need to give your guests a real serving. • Depending on if your guests have allergies or not, you could mix the M&Ms with peanuts, raisins, etc. It'll probably cost a little more to buy all of the extras but not as much as it would cost to fill the whole box up with M&Ms, those are pretty expensive.
  • So basically you have a big take out box with just 2 m&ms in it? Sounds like a waste of money and time and makes you end up looking cheap no matter what she thinks. Personalized M&Ms are expensive and if you're going to give edible favors, give more than just 2 tiny pieces of candy. Fill it up with other candy like Kisses or whatever you like but don't have an empty box. It's perfectly ok to skip them and put your foot down that you don't want them.
  • Why don't you mix the personalized m&ms with regular m&ms in your wedding colors? That will be much less costly than using all personalized m&ms. My DD and SIL used m&ms as did our son and DIL. Probably because DH works for m&m/mars. =) Anyway, she used a small favor box. Put the m&ms in a tulle bag and put it in the boxes. She got the tulle circles on clearance-about $1.00 for all of them. She also got the boxes on sale and spent about $10 for them. The only real cost was the cost of the candy, but the favor boxes looked nice and of course, the candy tasted great!

  • FSIL used clear plastic cubes for her m&m's. She bought the personalized ones in green and bought non-personalized ones in her other color and just mixed them together. Those things are CRAZY expensive! I also must admit.... the quality was HORRIBLE. Most of them were smeared so you couldn't read the writing. None of the writing was centered, either horizontally OR vertically. I would have been embarassed to give them away as my favors, to be honest. They looked like a 3 year old had done them. (No offense to pp's family member who works for them. lol) FSIL and her dh live in California but chose to marry here in IL where they're both from. She had the m&m's shipped here, and her dad never opened them to look at them. She didn't realize until 2 days before the wedding how horrible they looked and it was too late to get more favors or have them redone.
  • Since a PP mentioned that the printing quality on them was poor, I just wanted to say that ours had no such problems. Maybe it's because we got words - not pictures - printed on them. Ours looked great.
  • FSIL's also had only words - no pictures. Maybe she just got a bad batch.
  • Disclaimer: my DH does work for m&ms and the personalized ones we've gotten have never looked anything but terrific. I do think the ones with words look much better than the picture ones, though!

  • We looked into personalized M&Ms for the wedding shower favors, and I agree with others that they are definitely expensive for what you get.  They do sell little takeout boxes, but you'd probably have to put a small handful of M&Ms in each one.  Actually, if you go on the M&M website, they suggest about how much to put in each favor.  Good luck!

  • Wait- I'm confused... She cannot possibly mean 2 (two) m&m's in each favor box.... can she?I'm sorry but this would be totally crazy.  I'm begging you to reconsider.

  • yea... she is thinking of just two. i do have a while to convince her to get more but i'm still trying to figure out a tactful way to do that and then how to package them with the other candies and things. I'm thinking some kisses and some bliss and someother things
  • I have a feeling you FMIL would be the very FIRST person to complain if she went to a wedding, opened the favor box only to discover TWO M&Ms in the box. Ditto on getting non-personalized ones in coordinating colors if you don't want to "fill" the box w/just the personalized ones, or maybe another candy or something. Although, at that point, I could really see people just not noticing the personalized ones (Which cost a lot of money to not be noticed ... I know, I priced M&Ms in my favor hunt). The boxes/bags should be filled no matter what you choose to do with the candy.
