Dance in the day?

Our ceremony is at 11am and the reception following shortly after. We are wanting to have some dancing- my question is- is it weird to have a "dance" in the middle of the day?? I don't want to wait hours to have the reception but I don't want to change the time of the ceremony either. Any suggestions or opinions??

Re: Dance in the day?

  • Give them booze and lower the lights and the people who are inclined to dance will do so.  It's all about atmosphere.  Also remember that an earlier start means that you can have a lower key reception and then hit the clubs afterward.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • My one friend had an 11:30 ceremony, 1:00 reception (It was cheaper for them to have a Saturday "afternoon" than evening). They treated it like a typical evening reception: They hired a DJ and had open bar. They served a full meal: soup, salad, entree (Entree selections included prime rib and chicken franchaise), then they had cake and all that. Lights were dimmed, and the venue had curtains on the windows that they closed so you really couldn't tell what time of day it was.

Their dance floor was packed most of the day. Since the reception was over at 5, they proceeded to have an after party in their bridal suite for the friends that were still fired up.

  • Exactly what PPs said.  If you give people booze, get the DJ going and dim the lights, people who dance will dance.  I was in a Sunday afternoon wedding outside under a tent once.  Once the bar was open, the dance floor was packed, even in the middle of the day.
  • Thanks! That helped me out alot!
  • I've attended several events (weddings and bar/bat mitzvahs) with dancing during the day. It's pretty much just like at night.
  • I was wondering the same thing about our 2:30 ceremony, and 4:00 reception, thanks for asking this, and I'm glad the responses were positive!
