waiting for the buffet - ideas to make it not feel like such a drag

Do you have anything to keep your guests entertained while they wait for the buffet line?

FI's cousin had a cute idea, she had a song name on each table, and when that song was played it was your table's turn to hit up the buffet. But I can't use this since she already did it (1/2 our guests were at her wedding).

How about some sort of trivia game on the tables?

Any ideas?

I think you could still use it. and I think it's cute too.
Will your venue have a person to "release" the tables to go to the buffet? if so, Just play some music they'll just chat.

  • you could number the tables and have the dj release 3 or 4 tables at a time.....

I like this idea a lot better than what your cousin did.

This is what we're planning on doing.
  • I think people will be chatting, laughing, sharing memories, and doing what adults in social situations do.  I don't think you need to play games at all.  Treat your guests like the adults they are.  Just have the dj announce when it's time to go up, or if you have a DOC, they'll move around and invite tables to the buffet.

A big good luck to you!

Ditto. It is a good idea though to have the DJ release tables a few at a time to keep things organized and flowing.
  • I went to a wedding where the bride and groom walked around to each table to chat for a couple minutes and then released the table to go to the buffet.  It was really nice because it seemed like they got to have some 'face time' with every single guest and the tables were released at regular intervals..just wouldn't advise it if you have too many Chatty Cathy's at the wedding!  The other potential downfall is that the bride and groom eat last..
  • ^^That would be a nice way of getting out of the dreaded receiving line lol
  • We placed a menu on top of each table, with the hope that informing our guests of the options ahead of time would speed up their time in line.

And, our caterer 'released' the guests.  Either your caterer or DJ should be able to do this for you, if you're hiring them.

Ditto the PPS who said no to games.
