Are flameless candles tacky?

Has anyone ever used flameless candles? I'm worried that people will think that they look tacky. The reception is going to be on the beach at dusk and we are having large lanterns as centerpieces. We also want to have small votive candles placed around the lanterns on the tables, but I'm really worried that an exposed candle will blow out. I saw online that Nate Berkus has nice looking flameless candles, but I don't know what they look like in person. Anyone have any experience or suggestions with these? Thanks!

  • They are ok if inside something.  Like inside a vase or in your lanterns.  I think they look dumb if you can directly see the fake flame.
dont make ur password so easy. gbck2CA2 hahahaha
  • IDK, i dont think they are tacky, but I personally dont like the look of them, are the candles nessesary for light? if not leave real candles in the lanterns where they will be sheltered from the wind and maybe scatter some beach glass, shells, flowers, petals, river rocks, etc
  • Agreed...i dont think they are tacky but a little odd. I guess they are the new thing, but I dont plan on using them at my wedding.
  • tacky? no i don't think it is. i would never choose them over real candles but in a situation like this or maybe in a place that doesn't allow them i think you could do it. you can get ones that flicker like real candles too. what if you just get the small candle holders or small vases that protect it a bit better..? i think if the glass or whatever is higher than the flame it won't blow out so easy. or using floating candles reflects more light & you don't have to fill the vases to the top so the flame could be protected..? or maybe place things like shells or something next to them so the flame isn't as open?
  • I don't think they are tacky, but I'm not a fan of them either.  They don't seem to give off enough light for me!

  • You are getting married at the beach is the reception there as well? then it makes sense to have the fake candles as the real ones will be going out all night with the breeze.  No one will notice...it's not like they are less expenisve ususally, so I wouldn't worry about it
