So my fiance and me are planning on a masquerade reception. As party favors we are thinking of the mask being the gift. My maid of honor wants to buy cheap plain mask and have us decorate them. But I am awful with anything that involves glue and scissors. So I want to buy mine. Would masquerade mask be a good favor?

If you know someone crafty who can decorate them for you, that would be a fun favor! And I think the bride and groom should be able to buy theirs, it's you wedding after all!  Just don't go over board...for example, I think if the bride has a velvet mask with crystal beading, feathers, etc...it would be rude to paint $2.00 masks from Michaels a solid color with no extra pizzazz...that seems more fitting of a childs birthday party

No.  If you want to wear a mask go for it but I, and many others, would feel really silly wearing a mask.  Even more what would I do with it later?  Mine would end up in the trash or donation box.

What about a mask on a stick?  I would love an awesomely classy one.  I would hate a three year old arts and craft session one...

they sell masks on a stick at Oriental Trading. and usually they sell that stuff by bulk. and then you can have them choose if the want to wear one or not.

i own mask that i bought in venice. a gorgeous huge expensive one that is beautifully crafted. no offense but i have one, i'd probably leave your 'favor' behind.
my advice-skip that for a favor. if you and fi want to wear them, great, but dont ask your guests to and certainly dont make cheap homemade ones your favors either. i hate to sound snarky but....................spend the money to give your guests a GOOD favor instead of a cheap mask that will be thrown out.

i'm having a mardi gras reception and it took me a while to think of favors. i thought about mask but as everyone here mentioned i don't think our guest will enjoy it as much. so we've decided on masks for my bridesmaids, top hats for the groomsmen, and monogrammed hankies and doubloons for the guest

Well our wedding is on devil's night so a masquerade seems perfect plus they wouldn't be cheap. We would make them awesome. With feathers and jewels and glitter. As for mine it is just simple and I don't want to mess mine up. Still think that is what I am going with if they don't like them oh well. But I know most my guest will be putting on the mask and meeting us out on the dance floor. So thanks for your input but I think I am going for it. I will let you know how it goes.

We where thinking some on sticks, some with feathers, some with gems, some with glitter. groomsmen and bridesmaid in the colors of the wedding and after that anyone else could have any color

I think this sounds like an absolute blast!

Some people said they wouldn't be into this idea and I'm sure they wouldn't. But...if you are having a smaller wedding where you personally know all of your guests and know they'd have fun with this, then by all means, do it! If you get people who think this is tacky or weird...well, they can sit and be bored.

Honestly, I'd rather my guests have a great time at the "masquerade" and throw away the masque when they get home than have everyone sitting around staring at the "nice" favor that they take home and go "now WTH do I do with this crap"?

OP, if this is an idea that you like, then by all means, do it. it's YOUR wedding!

I know many people who would refuse to wear them.  I also know many people who would leave them there or take them home and throw them away.  This is one of those "know your crowd" types of situations.  If you're trying to have it fit with your theme though maybe you could use them as place cards.

I am not doing place cards, but good idea if I was. I know my crowd well enough. Plus I have all these favors from other weddings that I don't use so what does it matter that they aren't going to keep them or use them again. The people that choose not to wear them are going to feel like the outcast. If they leave them oh well.

Oh my gosh we are also doing a masquerade theme, or at least we are trying to. I don't think we will do alot with favors. I think  we are doing a masquerade centerpiece. The favors will be something very little like mints or something stupid like that because we would rather make a donation to our facorite charities, because honestly some people will forget them or they will end up in the garbage. My mom is very worried about the masquerade theme, but  I think we can pull it off. I'm so excited that you are doing this as well. Good luck with it!  DHgate.com has some great masks.  I was going to make our own, but I think I'd rather pay for them, and their website is pretty reasonable for what I have seen with masks. Are you having your guests bring their own mask? I think on our reception card we are putting something like "Please join us for a black  and silver masquerade themed reception immediately following the ceremony." That way if they want to bring a mask great, if not, too bad for them.

I think it sounds fun! If someone gave me a mask for a favor that I also got to wear at the wedding I would def keep it. Id either hang it up or sit it up on my shelf. I really wanted to do a masquerade theme as well but my fi just wouldnt hear of it lol

Im sure your day will be simply AMAZING! Please post pics when you have them. Id love to see how it all turned out.

I know this is an older post but I'm also thinking of doing a masquerade theme! In place of the "costume party" my fiance wanted! Anyway oriental trading has a bunch of different options that are not too expensive. When I looked in the catalog there was not much but online there was way more.

I know its a bit late, but we're doing a masquerade reception and we went to a bunch of dollarstores before halloween and found stupidly cheap masks that actually looks really nice (bought in gold and silver). I have never in my life kept a wedding favor, so I really could care less if these get thrown out at the end of the night since all favors do. They're meant to be fun and silly and no offence taken if folks don't want to participate.  We're pre setting the masks at the table so it also makes for some table decor.
