Wishing lanterns

So I recently saw the movie Tangled and I loved the lanterns that were in the movie. I loved it so much, that it got me thinking about using them for our our grand exit for when my (soon to be) husband will leave the reception.

Has anyone used them for that before? Are there any disadvantages that I should know about?

Re: Wishing lanterns

  • Do you have pictures? Never seen the movie.....
  • I saw the movie and I LOVED them! If the place you are at will allow this, I think it's a great idea!

Just because you saw it on Four Weddings, doesn't mean it's a good idea.
  • I did a quick internet search and you can purchase them online for not to bad of price.....would the reception site let you use? I love the idea.....just not sure if fired hazard....love it through!!!! Please keep us posted.
  • My friend did this for her wedding.  We all went across the street to the pier and lit them over the water.  The photographer got some great shots of the B&G.  You should check with your venue and the city fire department.  The only way my friends were able to do this is if they were over a body of water due to the fire hazards.

  • I had looked into this as well.... And found that it is illegal in most states... You will definitely want to check with your fire department... These wish lanterns are paired with fireworks laws... More than likely if fireworks are illegal in your area so are these lanterns.... I was pretty bummed when I found out I couldnt do it.... but Definitely check into it with your venue and fire department!!! Hope everything works out!!!

  • Not that I'm chief of the environmental police or anything, but you'd be littering.  Unless you have someone go around and pick them up after.

OP, man your idea sounds amazing but the littering thing would get to me as well.

FWIW:  There were SO many things I wanted for our wedding and couldn't do (mostly for money reasons but some were restrictions)...so don't be disappointed too much if you can't do this.
