Beer corkage fee?

I am getting married at "The Quarry" in Mount Vernon, WA.  They hired a new coordinator (Beckie Bruffey from Design Dayz) after we signed our contract and things have changed quite a bit.  One of the things that I was very surprised to see was a $1.50 corkage fee for every beer that is opened!  Has anyone else been charge corkage for beer? I think it is ridiculous.  We will end up spending more on corkage than the actual beer costs!  Also, has anyone been charged by the glass rather than by the bottle  (wine) or say gallon for lemonade, etc..  Here's what we will be charged: $6.00 per glass of wine, $4.00 per glass of lemonade, $4.00 per cup of coffee/tea..... I'm not convinced that they will actually be able to keep track of per glass consumption.  I never would have gotten married here had these things been in place when we signed our contract (sadly, none of the beverage costs were in our original contract).

I have heard of a corkage fee.. But a $1.50 per beer?  Damm, the way my family and friends drink beer that would put in me in the poor house.

If lemonade and coffee was given out by the bartender then I can see the per consumption.  But I've never heard of that in the case it's on a buffet. 

I would really have to negotiate some of these charges or find another spot.

good one... Sadly a lot of wines do not have corks these days.

I am paying 2.50 per person 21 and over and that includes chilling the wine and beer and they are also providing the glasses.  We will be providing our own drinks. I would try to negotiate something else. They can't make you pay for something that is not in the contract. I am not encouraging bridezilla attitudes, but I would definetly confront the coordinator and explain that making $1.50 for the whole 30 seconds or less that it takes to take off a bottle cap is unreasonable. There is always room for negotiation and no one wants an upset bride.

That stinks!   Are your having open bar? If guest are paying for their own they should up the prices a little bit. Well, I also think $1.50 is to much...and to charge $4.00 for coffee.  Well most places inclued coffee with the meal.

 I agree that if it's not in your contract then they can't charge you.  Did you read over the contract? Verbal agreement just isn't good enough.  If you can get your deposit back, then you should move your venue.  The wedding is stress enough and you don't need to worry about this.  Maybe if they thing you will get your money back and leave, they might workit out with you.
