order of key reception events

Hi ladies!  I posted this on the Wedding Recap board but I also know you will give great advice:

What order are you doin gthe key events such as theFirst Dance, taosts, cake cutting, etc.?  I am having a hard time deciding on what to do right after our reception grand entrance-do the first dance then and toasts during dinner or do the toasts then and first dance later to get the dancing started???

Thoughts?

Re: order of key reception events

  • We did the introduction, then the toasts, then dinner, then the first dance, father/daughter dance, mother/son dance, then open dancing.  A little bit later we cut our cake.  We didn't do a bouquet or garter toss.

  • We are doing the entrance, first dance, father/daughter dance, mother/son dance, brother/sister dance (i have one brother and he has one sister and they mean the world to us, so we thought we would dedicate a dance to them) then the toast.  We are also not doing the garter/bouq thing.  Your the Bride, in my experience, when the bride gets up to dance everyone joins in.
  • Our reception went a little something like this:

    1) Entrance (That one's a no brainer, I'm guessing, hahaha)
    2) First Dance
    3) Parent Dance (We combined the Father/Daughter and Mother/Son)
    4) Toasts
    5) First Course
    6) Some Dancing
    7) Entree
    8) More Dancing
    9) Cake Cutting
    10) Dancing 'til the DJ said "Ok, last song of the night!".

If we'd done a bouquet and/or garter toss, it would have been after the cake-cutting.

We also didn't really plan the "timeline". Our DJ and the venue coordinater where very "Ok, we're moving on to this now" the entire time. Everything ran smoothly and our guests had a blast, so I'm pretty sure this is an "acceptable" way of doing things.
