Trying to pick a song to dance with my mom to...my dad passed away...

I need some honest opinions... My dad was my hero. He died in a car accident when I was 12 years old. My fiance remembers him because we rode the same school bus when we were in the third grade. I am dancing with my mother for my father-daughter dance. I am playing a slide show of pictures of him because this will be the only time in my life that I can show his family a window into how wonderful he was as a person.... I am thinking a country song and I was going to do "remember when" by Alan Jackson because my parents had a wonderful marriage and would have been married 20 years the year he died...so this year would have been their 35 wedding anniversary. Does anyone think this will be too sad? I was also thinking of the song "daughter in the water" by Loudon Wainwright...or the song "because you loved me" by Celin Dion... I was thinking of secretly recording my own voice singing because you loved me for my mom and playing it for the first time for our dance... I have sang my whole life and she has always supported me...(I know what you are thinking...if you suck that would be awful) but don't worry, I only suck LIVE! :)  Thoughts please?

Re: Trying to pick a song to dance with my mom to...my dad passed away...

  • If you like country music...Lauren Alaina (spl) has a new song called Like My Mother Does.
  • My father passed away when I was 19 so my mom is walking me down and the aisle and we are doing a dance.  Just for me personally, I hought the dance should be a bit more upbeat than an emotional one since its a day of new beginnings.  I am putting a dedication to my dad in the program and dancing to My Wish with my mom.  I'm not sure if I missed it above or not but you are letting your mom know the song and pictures are playing?

  • No matter what song you choose, happy/upbeat or slow/sad, this is going to be a very emotional moment, not only for you but also for everyone in the crowd who was close to your father. Many tears will be shed during this moment, and that is okay. Some will be sad tears and some will be happy tears. Just plan on taking a few minutes to yourself after the dance to regain your composure. I'm very sorry to hear about your father.. Just keep him in your hearts on this wonderful day of yours!
