How many chairs??

We're not having assigned seating at our reception. How many extra tables and chairs should i account for (assuming that each table will not be full)?

    about 10%

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • Agree w/ PP, 10% is probably good.  If you can manage to do closer to 15%, I think it really gives your guests options without having to stress about playing musical chairs.
  • I think that 15% extra is too much.  Nothing looks sadder than a room full of half-occupied tables, or empty tables.
