Postcard guestbook -- How many cards?

Hi everyone!

I'm a lurker/sometimes poster actively trying to use the boards more to help me plan my June 29 wedding. I'd like to get some opinions on our guestbook.

I'm doing a rack of vintage postcards from Maine (where our wedding will take place) and ask guests to please write us a note on a card and put it in the mailbox we will have next to the rack. We are inviting 130 guests and expecting about 120 (including our wedding party and immediate family).

I don't know how many cards to order. It seems as though I won't need a full 120, since many couples/families will sign cards together. Others will forget to sign a card entirely. How many cards do you think would be safe? My guess was about 90, since we do have some larger families and many couples/family couples, but I'm worried about running out or if some people might fill out more than one.

Thanks! :)

  • I think you're safe with 90.  I agree that most couples will sign together.  IMO, I doubt people will sign more that one.

  • I LOVE this idea!
That being said, be sure you have ample signage/instructions for your guests so that they know what to do.  My SIL did something very similar at her wedding and there was no signage (it was also in an inconvenient location) and unfortunately only a handful of people filled them out because they weren't sure what to do.
  • Thanks for the help! I think 90 will be good, then. I'm already mocking up a little sign with instructions to put on top of the postcard turnstile (it's a true one from a tourist shop, so it would be where the prices would normally be listed). We will make it clear to guests, and also are going to put it right next to our photobooth and candy bar table so it can't be missed.

    Thanks again!

  • So...did the 90 cards work out?  What would you suggest for a party with 180 guests?
