I'm new to the boards and am getting married at Paradisus PuntaCana Oct. 24, 2010. Still trying to figure out the best honeymoon destination, so if anyone has recommendations please send them my way.

Has anyone else been freaked out by reviews on tripadvisor.com? I did lots of research and reviews were good, and now a string of bad ones. It's so hard planning from a distance and not knowing what you're getting yourself into!

Thanks for the warm welcome! I just wanted to know if there are more of us! Mine is actually not a destination wedding. I'm Dominican and live in DR. My FC is Puertorican and lives in NY, but will be relocating to DR from the wedding on. This is so exiting! I don't know if you have been to your hotels, but I've been to all of them, and they are great!

I'm getting married on 01/22/2011 in Santo Domingo (the capital) in a catholic ceremony at the Dominican Convent, in the old city, and the ceremony will be held at the Renaissance Jaragua Hotel.

I'm assuming that a lot of you are of Dominican descent, so you might not need any help, but if there's any info that you need from here, just ask. I'm the last one to get married from my group of friends, and between helping them plan for their weddings, and planning my own, I have become quite the expert (haven't we all!).

Well, if you are getting married in the East part of the country (that will be Bavaro P. Cana) you could stay there, or try other parts of the island for your honeymoon. I will suggest Puerto Plata, in the north, and Samaná, in the northeast. In Samaná there's this place call Las Terrenas which is to beautiful and romantic for words. They are few all inclusive hotels, but there are several "hotel boutiques" with less than 20 rooms or villas, and you can buy the meal plan or just eat out in the town.

As for the reviews, I suggest you take them into consideration, but also try to ask a local. I can give you references of many hotels (the company that I work for sends me all over every other week because we have businesses in several provinces of the country), but also I can give you the numbers of several people that specialize in helping out-of-the-country brides with their planning, and that are actually responsible. All my cousins from US have married here, so I know a few planners.

Hello, I'm getting married in caberette, Dominican republic in June. We can not afford a planner and will be trying to find flowers, cakes, decor, ect. When we get there. Does anyone know the purto plata area that has some ideas, tips, or experience? It would be very much apprecheated!! Thank you!!
