Does anyone else have a Macy's registry? (Long)

FI and I regestered at Macy's last November and were very happy with our registry choice (we also registered at Williams-Sonoma as well).  However, we were sent several engagement gifts that arrived damaged.  Wine glasses arrived completely shattered and fragile items were not packaged well at all (things just thrown in the box).  Macy's took the damaged items back without a problem, so we thought that was the end of our troubles with them.

Then I noticed that my Thank You Note Manager on the Macy's website does not work.  I've called Macy's customer service multiple times and no one can figure it out.  Now that my shower is over, it really would have been nice to use that feature to easily keep track of everything.  My bridesmaids wrote down the items I received at my shower, but I think they got a few gifts confused.

Then, we received 4 sets of our everyday dishes in the mail from someone who could not attend the shower.  3 out of the 4 sets had to be returned because of broken dishes.  The person who sent those to us also paid extra for "gift wrapping" which just meant that they put it in a nicer box which still didn't prevent it from arriving in pieces.

At my shower, 2 guests came up to me after to tell me that the Mikasa china that they had just given me was broken and that they had ordered it online.  I told them not to worry, I've been dealing with the problem for months now.  They still felt horrible that I would have to return their gifts for a replacement.

Has anyone else had this much trouble with Macy's?  I'm looking for a customer service email on their website to complain.  I'm not typically a complainer, but this is ridiculous!

  • Wow that's crazy! I have received a few of our Macy's gifts in the mail, none of which were broken. That's great that they're taking care of the items, but so annoying that you even have to deal with it. Maybe if you complain to corporate they will give you a gift card or something! ;)

  • I just got my set of corningware in the mail yesterday and I'm fairly certain one of them is broken (we're waiting to see if it's a shower gift or a wedding gift before we open and attempt to return it).  I am surprised that they don't package their fragiles better.  I ordered salt and pepper shakers (fine china) from BBB for a friend and they arrived wrapped in 2 sizes of bubble wrap and had paper wrappings in the box.  I really hope I'm not going to have to return a bunch of china dishes due to broken ones. (Ugh!)
  • Oh no!  I haven't had much experience with our Macy's registry yet.  I've only gotten a food processor from it.  I actually moved our everyday china to BBB because they are cheaper, so I hope they package better.  That is so annoying!  I would start putting in a lot of complaints.

  • I just called one of the Macy's corporate numebrs.  I got transfered / put on hold a bunch of times, but at least they appologized profusely and are sending us a $50 gift card.  Hopefully, this prevents another bride in the future from having to open a Macy's box to find broken gifts.

    I hate to complain...but in this case, I'm glad that I did : )

  • That's ridiculous.  I do have a Macy's registry and received one fragile item from it for my shower but I believe that the person picked it up in person so there was no problem.  I can't believe that Macy's can't get their act together with this.  They must be losing so much money replacing things.  Don't have any advice but I may be in the same boat as you if other people buy from my registry.

P.S. William Sonoma is my other registry too.
  • I recevied a few shower gifts from Macy's as well.  One was wine glasses that were thrown in a box and not wrapped in anything, needless to say i a couple were broken.  i had to go to the store and return them.  Then we received a set of beer glass, the box that the glasses were in was baiscally falling apart and the bottom of all the glasses were chipped.  Now i need to return those.  I just recently received boxes of our dishes, i havent had a chance to go through them yet, but i am dreading it and just hoping i dont need to do ANOTHER exhange!  I feel your pain!  On the other hand everything i recevied from BBB was package excellent and had no issues!

  • Im registered at macys and all the gifts i received came in one piece and/or were packaged appropriately, if they were gift wrapped they came in nice silver wrapping with grey bows.
That sucks that you had such a problem, but atleast your getting a GC out of it!!
  • Nope...the gift wrapping here was a flimsy silver box with a ribbon tied around it.  Inside the box, the gifts were just thrown in. I feel bad for our guests who paid extra for that!
