QOTD 2/27

Since it was brought up this weekend, how much time are you taking off before the wedding?  How much time for the honeymoon?

Re: QOTD 2/27

  • My wedding is October 20th.  I'll be off starting October 16th and returning to work on Halloween!  That's 4 days before the wedding, one day after the wedding, an 8 day honeymoon, with a recovery day at the end before getting back to work! :)  This also means my time off until then is pretty much non existent!!

  • Being a graduate student I don't really "take time off."  My game plan right now is to likely not come in the wednesday/thursday/friday before the wedding. I'll just prioritize reserach projects and make sure things are done in advance. FI took that time off already.

Honeymoon right now is planned (but not yet booked) for my winter break when I"m already off from school. Fi will take 5 days off for this but since he works 5 (12 hour) days on then 5 days off, it will result in him having a full 15 days off in a row, 8 of which we'll hopefully be in Disney World.

  • We will be taking a total of 2 weeks off.  Our plan is to fly to FL on the 7th, get married on the 11th, fly to the honeymoon destination on the 13th and home on the 20th.

  • Our date is 10/20 so I'm planning to be off the 18th and 19th to get last minute things done. We'll be spending our wedding night in an inn next to our reception venue then leave the next day for...destination unknown. FI is really rooting for Gatlinburg TN area for 5-7 days in a cabin. So -'ll prob be back to work by the 30th. FI said he's taking off the whole week prior to wedding but he can do that because he has enough comp time built up with the state.

  • Our wedding is 10/27 and I plan on taking Thursday and Friday off.  Then we will go on our honeymoon the Sunday after the wedding and we'll come back on the 2nd, but won't go back to work until the 5th of November.  We are also trying to plan for a three day bachelor/bachelorette party in Vegas at the beginning of October.  Thank God I work for myself and FI has saved vacation time :)

  • I'm getting married Oct. 13th. I plan on working just Mon. and Tue. of that week. I then plan on taking the next week off for our honeymoon. So all togther 8 days off work.
  • I will take 3 days off before the wedding. Then I will work a week and then take 2 weeks off for the honeymoon.
  • I'm a graduate student too...technically I'm supposed to only get 10 days off per year, but my advisor is really flexible about that.  As long as you're being productive in the lab, he really doesn't care if you go over the 10 days per year.

Our wedding is 10/12.  Both FI and I will be off starting 10/6 through probably 10/15 or 10/16.  Our wedding is back in our hometown, about 3 hours away, and I know that we have final meetings with the venue plus the rehearsal dinner the week of 10/7.  So, we really need to be back home the week before the wedding.

We're not taking a honeymoon right away because there's a strong probability that I could be writing my Ph.D. thesis around that time.

Good luck! I had the committee meeting from hell last week. Nice to know I"m not the only one in the world of academia  on the board at the moment.

  • I'm a 10/6-er, and my last day at work before the wedding is the 3rd! I am glad to see lots of the other Saturday brides are just taking off the Thursday and Friday before. My FMIL thought I was crazy and that I'd need the whole week! But I work at a school and taking time off during the school year is REALLY crazy and hard to do (I didn't work here when we booked and decided on a fall wedding... if I did, I might have tried to do summer), so two days was really all I thought I could manage.

We're leaving for our honeymoon Tuesday the 9th, which gives us time to get back home (we're getting married a few hours away), settle, and pack up for the honeymoon. We're there until Monday, the 15th, and back to work Wednesday, the 17th, so we have another day at home to decompress, sleep, get used to the idea of going back to work, etc.

  • I'm a 10/27 bride and a high school teacher. So I don't really get "time off" either. I get two unpaid personal days a year and sick time. Since everyone knows I'm getting married, taking sick time is not an option.

Luckily, we have a professional development day on that Friday, so I can take off without having to deal with a sub. I'm also taking off Monday to relax before I head back to work.

We're honeymooning during Christmas. Right now, we're looking at 12/23-12/30.

Ideally, I should have gotten married in the summer to not deal with time off, but I just hate the idea of sweating my butt off on my wedding day.

  • I'm taking Thursday the 4th and Friday the 5th off of work, getting married October 6th, and am scheduled to have the 8th-12th off.  I would return to work October 15th.

We don't have a honeymoon scheduled, so if we don't end up taking one, I will maybe take one or two days off after the wedding and decompress!  We may take a honeymoon later in the year.  Haven't figured that out yet!  :)
  • I work 10 hour days so I have Fridays off all ready. I will be taking Wed & Thurs off before the wedding and 1 week for the honeymoon right after.

  • The wedding is Friday, 10/26.  I'm taking 2 days before and leaving for HM next day, returing to work the following Sunday, 11/3.

I wish I could take more time off but our vaction time was cut last year.  Oh well, at least I still have a job to come back to!

  • I'm a 10/20 bride as well.  I'll be taking the 19th-23rd off.  We're going on a mini-moon to Toronto. Since my FI and I are both teachers, the maximum number of days we can take is 3. We talked about having a summer wedding so we'd have more time, but the Cincinnati humidity would have made it unbearable!

Exactly my situation!! Wisconsin in the summer can get pretty muggy and nasty!

  • our wedding is sunday the 7th and i took the friday before off (although there's a chance when it gets closer that that might not be possible and i'll have to work).  we're then taking two weeks off -- and although our honeymoon isn't booked yet i'm hoping to be gone monday to monday and then come back and enjoy being home and married for the rest of the second week!

Agreed with this, I am in the Cinci area too and while it would be so much more convienient to get married in the summer there was no way I wanted to be sweating buckets on my wedding day because of the stupid humidity. Hopefully October will be pretty cool, but with the crazy Ohio weather we have been having lately it will be just our luck that it'll be sticky and hot. Fingers crossed!

I am getting married during a semester at school, so I will have to wait and see what my classes look like and decided how much time I will be taking off pre-wedding. Probably not much at all, I feel like I will have everything pretty much figured out and enough helping hands that I won't need to worry about it. After the wedding I will hopefully be able to skip classes (or just not have them scheduled) on Monday and Tuesday. We are mini-mooning to Hocking Hills (some cabins up North) and then doing our big trip after I graduate next April.
  • I'm getting married October 5th and I'm taking the whole week prior off. I run a Day Care out of my house with my Mom so we're closing down for the week before the wedding and I'm going on a cruise for a week starting the Sunday after.  We each take 2 weeks off each year anyway and we ususally split it up so as to never close down the Day Care but we figured we can spoil ourselves and take the same week to do some last minute wedding things and just relax before the big day ;)
Plus all our parents are AWESOME and had no problem finding alternate care for that week-- YAY!

  • I'm not taking any time off before the wedding because I'm in school and have classes and clinical. We're taking a 2 week honeymoon the following summer.

  • We are getting married on 10/20. I will be taking the 19th off from work for sure. I might leave a little early on the 18th but we will see. We leave for our honeymoon on Monday the 22nd and won't return until the 29th.

I will miss 7 days from work which is a lot in a row for my position. If I'm not there, it doesn't get done.

  • I am a sunday the 6th bride.  As of now I plan on taking off at least a half day the Thursday before and all of Friday.  I will have Columbus day off and will probably go back on Wednesday.  But I might change my mind when it get closer and depending on how much annual/personal time at that time. We might take a mini-moon right after but are not completely sure.

  • I'm getting married on October 13th, and plan on taking the whole week before off, mainly because our wedding location and vendors are an hour away and i'll have a lot of traveling back and forth making sure everything is good to go and last minute finalization on things.  We aren't taking our honeymoon right away, instead we are waiting until after Christmas, I have a winter break from work and won't have to worry about taking the time off.

  • I'm getting married on a Sunday - Oct 14th.  I am not planning to take off any time before the wedding. :(  Rehearsal and rehearsal lunch is the Saturday (day before).  I am hoping everything will be done by then.  If not, I will be freaking out.

I'm taking off the Monday through Wednesday of the following week for our honeymoon..so 8 days off of work total.

I hope I'm not shooting myself in the foot by not taking time off before the wedding.  I'd rather use that time to go on our honeymoon...not work on the wedding.

  • Our wedding is 10/20, so I'm planning on taking 10/18 & 10/19 off for last-minute errands & to spend time with my MOHs, who are flying in from FL. If my one MOH plans on coming in the weekend before the wedding, I might take off the whole week before so that she & I can hang out and visit for a few days before the crazy rush of wedding stuff sets in.

I'm also taking off the whole week after the wedding for our honeymoon/recover time, so I'll be returning back to work on 10/29. I also won't be taking off much time between now and then (with the exception of a friends wedding in April), but it will be totally worth it to have that time off around the wedding!

  • My wedding is 10/20 so I am taking off from 10/13-10/30 I work three days a week 13 hr shifts so I am able to use just 6 vacation days during that time.. I am hoping we can save enough money for the honeymoon to go during that time! Otherwise it will just be a nice needed break!
