vent - a bit long

Sooo fiance just started doing the photography thing. He is really good I think. He bought one of his groomsmen's camera who is a photographer's camera when his friend got a better one and has been taking pictures in the yard and stuff for maybe a month or two... So now he wants to help find a photographer. That is great. I'm glad he wants to help. I found a photographer I really like and one we can afford. He hates her because she doesn't shoot in RAW (a kind of film I guess? I don't know) and because even though the pictures look good he can tell that she had flashthingies up and that she had to maually edit them to make them look good. I say, as long as they look good and we can afford them I don't care what she shot them in. He consulted his photographer friend and came back with a few other photographers that are a lot more expensive that he wants us to check out. I don't even particularly like his friend's pictues, so I'm not so sure consulting him is even helpful in that area. I am trying to do this wedding with the least possible drama, but he is going to need to lower his photography standards a bit unless he wants to chip in.  He basically threw a tantrum when I said I likd this one lady. My parents are giving us the wedding as a gift, and they are okay with whatever we want (they can say that because I'm more tight with money than they are, so they know I won't go crazy w/ stuff) *takes breath* *headdesk*

okay, i'm better. lol

  • Speaking AS a professional wedding photographer... RAW doesn't matter. You have to edit them manually either way. RAW is a type of photo taken- like a jpg. If she is a good photographer, she shouldn't have to shoot in RAW.

That being said... go with what's in the budget.

My FI is a photographer (semi-pro its not his only job) and trust me  editing is something you will want on wedding photos.

Why don't you tell your FI that you will let him pick the photographer but that you are only going to pay the same amount of the one you like and he will need to make up the difference.  That seems fair to me.

Shooting in RAW (from my slight understanding of it - asked my geeky IT/photographer FI and got more info than I wanted..............) would probably be more work for the photographer when it comes to transferring the "file" to an actual picture. And is also probably why your photographer is cheaper - just guessing here.

Personally I would offer to hand the job of securing a photographer over to FI telling him you and your family will not be paying more than what you have already been quoted.  Gives him something to do and no more arguments!

Good luck! And just a warning here................If you FI really gets into photography get ready to have a camera with you at all times and have your picture taken A LOT and ALL THE TIME!!!!  Its fun sometimes but I told my FI that on our honeymoon I want 3 days of no camera!!!!  He agreed but I don't know if he will be able to make it that long...........................one day is probably what I will get!

Good luck and don't sweat it!
