Song Help

We are filling out some paperwork that we need to return soon to the company that we hired our dj from.

My fiance wants us (he and I, not our entire wedding party) to enter to a song from one of the Star Wars movies. Not thrilled about this, but I agreed to it since he has been so great about letting me choose other stuff. Also, unless you are a huge Star Wars fan, I don't think you would know what it is from. However, we still need a song for when our parents and bridal party make their entrance into the reception room. We are not sure what to choose for this. If you are doing this, what song are you having your parents / bridal party enter to?

Also, is it customary to have a song for the cutting of the cake?

And lastly, one of my fiance's favorite songs is Baby Got Back. There is a section on the form for us to list any songs, artists, genres that we want played. We do not want to offend any of our guests and there will be a lot of older people at the reception, including my 89 year old grandma. Do you think the dj playing Baby Got Back would be offensive? I wasn't thinking it would be, but my fiance questioned it, and said it wouldn't need to be played if others would find it questionable.

Please help me. I'm terrible with making decisions!

Re: Song Help

  • We're using the Butterfly Waltz for either parents or BP, maybe both, depending on if it's long enough. I'm walking to Gira con me Queste Notte. My aunt's (through marriage) sister is playing it in the recording on violin. She passed almost 4 years ago due to cancer, so it's really special for me to walk to it.

I personally wouldn't be offended by Baby Got Back, but I'm very open-minded and not easily offended. They played it at my MOH's wedding back in August and one of the grandparents was actually the one that really got out there and grooved to it. Honestly, he was the only adult out there dancing to it, the rest were younger children that had no idea what was going on. I don't think it's because anyone was offended, it was just I think it was kinda weird to try and dance to?

  • For the cake cutting we are playing Knock me a kiss...the lyrics start like this:
I like cake and no mistake But baby, if you insist I'll cut out cake, just for your sake Baby!....It's a swing dance song and very snappy :) I'm playing sexy and I know it, let's get it on and you can leave the light on, also Pink's raise your glass and a few other things that are questionable and hoping people won't be offended! I'm a rebel :)
  • I like poison nothing but a good time for an entrance. I still don't know what we are going to do. Our band typically plays tonights gonna be a good night by the black eyed peas but I loathe them. Cake cutting they usually play a song. I like James Taylor how sweet it is. I've heard sugar honey honey a bunch too. I am a bit of a prude when it comes to wedding music for my wedding anything sexual makes me blush including let's get it on which is old and played at every wedding. A lot of older guests leave after the cake cutting so I would just ask your dj to play it later in the night.
  • I agree with PP, I would just ask the DJ to play the song a little later in the night when most of the older people have already left. The ones on the dance floor will have fun with the song.

  • for our grand entrance we were thinking of the Star Wars Throne Room Song

But FI is not a big fan of star wars... so we are going with the instrumental version of David Guettas With or Without you!

for our Wedding PARTY entrance we were going to use SOUL BOSSA NOVA...

but FI isn't into that either... so instead we are using the Jepordy theme LOL...

As fun as dancing to the song is, yes that song would be incredibly offensive.

(Your other ideas are great though!)
