QOTD 9/18

Do you and FI have any traditions?  If so, what are they?  If not, do you plan on starting any?

We have little traditions that are day-to-day life specific, if that makes sense. For example, our Saturday morning tradition is walking to our coffee shop around the corner, then going down to the market for brunch and to buy our groceries for the week. We've developed great relationships with our butcher, our baker and our fish monger. It wouldn't feel like "our" Saturday if we skipped those activities.

As far as holiday traditions and what-not, we don't have any yet.  I'm sure they will develop over time.

    Not really, not yet anyway...
I'm sure we will eventually :D
  • Fi and I only have 2 traditions that I can think of.  One is that we always get our Christmas tree Thanksgiving weekend.  The other is that after spending Christmas Eve with our families, (we split time between both), we stop at Marist college and take pictures under their Christmas tree.  We usually get there so late that we only have a few minutes to take pictures before the lights go out.  That is my favorite tradition and I hope to keep it up for many years.  :)

  • Not at the moment, but I'd like to start some.

  • On our dating anniversary, we recreate our first date and go get sushi (although that place closed, after six years-- boo!) and go to a museum in New York City. We want to keep that up.

On Valentine's Day, he makes macaroni and cheese and tradition used to dictate that we watched "Casablanca", but in the past few years we've branched out in to other movies. Funny enough, I can't remember what we watched last year. Valentine's has been on a weekday the past few years so I think I've fallen asleep a lot.

I think that's it for now? I look forward to creating Thanksgiving and Christmas traditions together!

  • None that are just ours..we still attend both our families' for Christmas and Thanksgiving. Sometimes we'll split and go to our respective ones then meet back together depending on when they're planned. I feel like this is something we'll develop more once we have kids.

  • Last year I wanted to start Christmas traditions so on Christmas eve we had a picnic and I plan on continuing that even if it's inside, and we made lavender scones on christmas day from the Lavender farm where we got engaged. Once we are married I would like to start a special meal on Sunday tradition.
  • We don't have any that are ours just yet. There are a couple that our parents have that we would like to continue.

  • Holidays we split depending on if FI has his kids or not. (This year we have Christmas!!!)

We go to the diner he took me for our first date 19 Aug (or close to it).

Instead of birthday presents we go on vacation in March since we were both born in March.

We try to have date night once a week, even if it's take out and watching a movie on Netflix.

lol ok I really like traditions...

  • Every Sunday during football season we try to pick a game and make a bet on it.  We try to pick a good match-up with teams that neither of us care about.  The looser has to do some sort of household chore.  I lost twice this weekend (BOOO).

We also make bets for the Oscars, Golden Globes and Emmys.  I typically win.

We do lots of other things besides gambling, really!

  • We really don't, and I would like to have something that we both recognize. We do have a little bit of a bedtime routine. He always kisses me good night and says "Good night, Mendi Jane, I love you". I always respond with a good night and his full name, including his last name. I spent years alone after I left my ex, and even when I 'dated' I didn't let anyone stay with me. Nor did I EVER use their name! Tax Guy, Tinker Guy, Kansas, Texas, Crazy - never a name. When I started saying good night Don xxxxxxx xxxxxx - in my mind I was saying I love you, I just could not say those words!

  • We have "habits" but not traditions yet (we also don't live together).
We always sign our cards for each other with  forever and always and he always opens my door and we kiss.

we want to start holiday traditions together once we are married...stuff like picking pumpkins to carve, decorating a real tree for xmas, watching the same movie.

  • On Christmas Eve, FI always reads to my daughter "The Night Before Christmas" just before she goes to bed. I adore it, and can't wait to see him carry it on with future children :)

The Christmas tree always goes up the weekend after Thanksgiving, and comes down the weekend after New Years.

Halloween decorations go up 1st week of October, and down 1st week of November. There must be at least one visit to the giant corn maze, and subsequent buying of pumpkins to carve at home. Hot apple cider is consumed in large quanitities.

  • We open our Christmas presents to each other on December 23 and watch Love Actually.  It started our first Christmas and we just kept it going even though we lived together this last Christmas.

We also started hosting a Christmas Day dinner for our two families and we hope to continue that tradition.

We have a weekly tradition of Pizza Date Night (normally on Fridays) and it's just our time to unwind and relax on the couch with some pizza and a tv show or a movie.
  • We never go out for New Year's. Instead, we stay home, turn the tv on at 11:55pm and watch the ball drop. Then we open a bottle of champagne always the same one and kiss and dance as the ball drops. We also go the farmers market on Saturdays and get fish and a couple other things for the week. We get breakfast too.
  • We have a lot of habits, but our only tradition really is opening christmas presents between the two of us the saturday before christmas.

  • we open one gift on christmas eve usually around midnight.
christmas we go to my families house then we go to his familes house. we do the same order on thanksgiving.
on our dating anniversary we generally have date night, but if FI isnt home due to work (hes a truck driver) we will do date night that weekend prior if its early in the week or we will do the weekend after.
If one of us leaves the house we kiss and say love you, and when FI leaves for work we kiss and I tell him I love him and have a safe trip.
One time when he left for work I didnt say have a safe trip so he thought I was really mad at him.

  • We've got a few amusement park ones, but those are the only ones we can come up with. We always go to Holiday World's opening weekend (first weekend in May) and always close the year on Blazing Fury at Dollywood for their last ride of the season, which is usually a day or two before New Year's.

Hopefully we'll come up with some fun Christmas traditions and other good traditions.
